Saying, "This is the picture," and looking at those yakshas with amazement and anger, he said again, "Emaho, this is amazing! How could the fame of the great and mighty King not have reached your ears? Even if you have heard of it, is it because it is so amazing that you do not believe it and have not grasped it? From what place have you come? Are the people there not skilled in seeking virtues? Because they do not value it especially and have no merit, I fear that the fame of the King has completely avoided them. Therefore, coming here from such a remote place, you have a little merit. The yakshas said, 'In the place of that virtuous one, non-humans cannot harm the people who live there. How did the power of that king come about?' The cowherd said, 'The power of our great king is obtained by his own greatness. Brahmins, look! His army is an army of love, and the army of wrath is only a formality. He is not angry and does not speak harsh words, but he can protect well. His command is the law, and even without property, he makes offerings to the holy. Although it is so amazing, he has no evil nature and no arrogance.' Our lord is endowed with many virtues such as these, and therefore he cannot harm the people who live in his place. Therefore, I cannot say too much to you. If you want to hear the virtues of the King of Men, you should go to that city. Go there and see that the people are happy with their own religion, abide in noble conduct, are always happy, have good harvests every year, are very happy, perfect, very kind and do not mock, are especially kind to those who arrive suddenly, remember the virtues of the King of Men in their hearts, praise his fame, and are very happy and accustomed to it like auspiciousness and happiness, then you will know more about the virtues of the King. By speaking so much about his virtues, those who want to see him will surely see his virtues directly. Then those yakshas, unable to resist with their own power, felt unbearable towards that king, and their hearts were filled with merit.

Even though he spoke reasonably and truthfully, their hearts did not soften. Most of those base ones, because they could not bear it, their minds were tormented. Whatever thing was proclaimed, they were even more tormented by it. Knowing that the king loved giving, those yakshas who wanted to harm him, when they saw the king, begged for food. Then the king was very pleased and commanded the people he had appointed to the task, 'Quickly give delicious food to the Brahmins.' Then, even when they brought the food needed for the Brahmins, those yakshas said, 'We do not eat such food.' Like tigers and leopards do not desire blue grass, they could not accept it. When the king heard this, he went to them and said, 'Then what kind of food do you want? I will search for it.' The yakshas said, 'Human flesh is very warm, and human blood is also warm. Eyes like lotuses, whose conduct is not diminished, are the food and drink of the yakshas.' Having said this, they revealed their bodies, bared their fangs from their mouths, their eyes were red and yellow, moving and disgusting, their noses were flat and disgusting, their hair and beards were yellow like burning flames, their bodies were black and disgusting like rain clouds, showing terrifying appearances. The king thought, 'These are flesh-eaters, not humans. Therefore, they do not want our food and drink.' He became certain of this. Then, that lord of men, being compassionate, with a pure mind, became even more compassionate towards them, his heart only thinking of compassion. He felt sorrow for those yakshas and certainly thought about this meaning: For those who are compassionate, such food and drink are very rare. Searching for it every day, there is no greater suffering than that. Even without compassion and without ability, effort becomes meaningless. Even if one has the ability, what is more difficult than being accustomed to helping others? Without compassion and with an unpacified mind, those who eat such food burn their own interests in this life and the next. When will these sufferings disappear? Now, if I could prepare food for them, even if it could only sustain them for a few days.
