Born, and went out from hell. Then, by the power of his merit, there, without muddy dirt, he was born from a lotus. White teeth, like a string of pearls, laughed as if mocking the devil. Then, the Bodhisattva I descended from the lotus seat born from the special merit, and went to the Pratyekabuddha, and with great joy in my heart, offered him food. In order to make his heart extremely joyful, that monk soared into the sky. There he rained down burning rain, beautiful like a cloud with lightning. The devil's thoughts did not succeed, and he was extremely disappointed, and his radiance also disappeared. He could not look at him directly, and disappeared with hell. Why is that? Because like this, noble people, even when faced with destruction, do not fear giving, so who would not give if they lived in comfort? Therefore, even threatening misers cannot make them give. It should also be said like this. The story of the birth of the merchant chief, the fourth. Noble people do not shrink from giving for fear of wealth running out. This is also heard: The Bodhisattva is endowed with virtues such as giving, discipline, lineage, taming, learning, wisdom, and humility. With perfect wealth, he is like a god of wealth, giving to all who come suddenly, so the wealth of giving is continuous. In order to benefit the world, he became the lord of giving, a merchant chief. Therefore, he was called "Unsubdued," because he is not subdued by faults such as stinginess. For the sake of desire, he did not hesitate, and became the special cause of generating joy. The poor people saw him, and he was also happy to see the poor people. When beggars begged him, he never said "no," because in his heart, the attachment to wealth was completely eliminated by great compassion. The poor people took the essence of wealth from his house,

It would be wonderful if the essence could be extracted. Wealth that is quickly wasted for no reason is extremely bad and not a type of wealth. Most wealth in the world becomes the basis of attachment and a helper for falling into evil realms. That wealth of his becomes meaningful because he and others obtain prosperity. Then, that great Bodhisattva, to all those who came to beg, as they wished, adorned himself with special reverence that was not defiled by afflictions, and made them very satisfied with the great giving of wealth. When the lord of the gods, Indra, heard of that great giving, he was greatly astonished in his heart, wondering whether this one was steadfast or not in giving, whether he would generate decline, and whether he would induce stinginess for fear of exhausting his wealth. Therefore, day by day, he gradually made the various forms of fruits, wealth, jewels, and utensils disappear. That great Bodhisattva, because of his fondness for giving, was like a drop of water struck by the sun. However much his wealth was exhausted, he took it out of his house as if burning it with the fire of great giving. Then, the lord of the gods, Indra, knowing that all the wealth of that great Bodhisattva was exhausted, but that he was still very devoted to giving, was greatly amazed in his mind. So, he made all his precious wealth disappear in one night, leaving only a rope and an axe. Then, the Bodhisattva, having risen in the morning at dawn as usual, looked and saw that the wealth, grain, utensils, and people of his house were gone, and there was no noise, and they seemed to be suffering. Seeing that it was unpleasant to look at, as if destroyed by demons, he wondered, 'What is wrong?' He searched everywhere and saw a rope for tying things and an axe there. He thought, 'If someone is too shy to speak the words of begging, but lives on my leftovers and shows such courage in my house, then my wealth will have been well used. If, because of the fault of my small fortune, it is unbearable to be seen, so that it disappears without anyone using it, then it will be terrible.' I have long known that the nature of wealth is impermanent.
