He said, "So be it." Having heard this, he said, "I will do as you say," and taking good food and drink, he went. He saw the hell of sentient beings, and becoming frightened and terrified, his eyes widened, and he retreated from the doorway. The Bodhisattva asked, "What is wrong?" He was so frightened that his voice was choked, and he could not speak to him, but he spoke. Then the Bodhisattva thought, "Emaho! How can this noble one return without taking alms from my house?" So, without listening to what he said, he quickly took the good food and drink himself, and in order to offer alms to that great powerful one, he went to the doorway, and he saw that great and terrifying hell of sentient beings. Then he wondered what this was, and a discriminating thought arose. The evil demon came out from inside the wall of the house, and manifestly displayed a wondrous divine body, and remained in the sky, and clearly spoke as if wishing to help, "Hey, householder, this great hell of sentient beings is called the Great Abyss. Those who enter into giving, having been deceived by the words of praise of the poor, who will waste wealth? Even if they stay here for thousands of years, it is very difficult to change or escape this situation. Wealth is the cause of purifying the three realms, and if it is lost, who will not destroy the Dharma? If the Dharma is destroyed by wasting wealth, why will sentient beings not remain in hell? For the sake of giving, wealth is the root of the Dharma, and by wasting it, you have committed sin. The unbearable burning tongue of the executioner of hell has therefore come here to devour you. Therefore, it is better to turn your mind away from giving, otherwise you will soon fall. Do not associate with this compassionate and perverse giving. Those who do not give in the proper way, and those who receive, will go to the realm of the gods. Therefore, block the path to higher realms, and stay away from striving to give." Then the Bodhisattva thought, "This evil one who speaks these words is certainly hindering me from giving."

Sa. I did not abandon the burden of diligence, and steadfastly, with a continuous stream of gentle words, I said to him: "Considering it beneficial to those like us, you have shown these paths of the noble ones, possessing the conduct of skillfully benefiting others, the gods should also do likewise. Before or after the occurrence of evil, it is best to die on that peaceful path. By being content with illness and making mistakes, when the condition worsens, treatment is of no avail. I have entered into generosity, this suffering, treatment will not make it less. Even if you show benefit, I will not listen, my mind will not turn back from generosity. Whoever says that generosity will turn into sin, and also says that wealth is the cause of Dharma, that there is another path of Dharma other than generosity, that person, hidden treasures will become the cause of Dharma. Or thieves will come and plunder, or be taken away by desire and disappear, or be burned by fire, yet one will gain merit, this cannot be understood by human intelligence. Giving wealth in generosity will lead to hell, and those who receive generosity will go to heaven, even if you try to stop me from giving, that will make me more diligent in giving. Do not change your words, I give to those beggars for the benefit of the heavenly realms and the world, I do not do this to obtain happiness. Then, in order to be steadfast as the demon wishes, extending his hand, he said to the Bodhisattva: Whether this is the benefit or a lie that I bring, please understand well, and go to a place of happiness. Possessing happiness, act respectfully, obtain happiness, or remember me with regret. The Bodhisattva said: Friend, please be patient. For those impoverished people, putting down arrogance, bravely begging, at the time of giving, rather be despised and not give, than in that unbearable hell burning with flames, be struck by flames and have the crown of your head fall. Having said these words, the Bodhisattva, relying on the power of my destiny, also knowing that there is no fault in generosity, abandoned giving sons, daughters, servants, and attendants, without hesitation in his mind, wanting to practice generosity.
