In that place. Those beautiful, well-dressed women resided happily in that beautiful garden. As he was staying there, a Brahmin skilled in eloquent speech came before him, and after paying respects, sat there with affection in his heart, gazing at his beauty. Then, that great Bodhisattva, being in his youth and watching and enjoying the music arising from the power of perfect merit, was greatly pleased when the Brahmin arrived. He spoke pleasant words. Before these words were heard and the purpose of coming there was accomplished, suddenly a great clamor arose, interrupting the songs and the sounds of instruments, spoiling the joy of the music, and causing the young women to be frightened and afraid. Having heard this, he specially instructed the chamberlains to find out what was happening. Then, his gatekeepers became flustered, their faces darkened with fear, and they rushed to report: 'O deity, Sudasa's son, that cannibalistic rogue, who is accustomed to eating many people, is like Yama himself appearing. He is more cruel than a Rakshasa, and his strength and power surpass that of humans. He is more terrible and frightening than a Rakshasa. He is here like a tangible being, causing people to be afraid. He has frightened the armies of chariots, elephants, horses, and many soldiers, causing them to lose their stability and scatter. O deity, now is the time for you to take action and make a decision.' Then, the Bodhisattva, knowing the evil nature and behavior of Sudasa's son from before, felt compassion and thought to heal him. Knowing that he had the power to pacify his evil nature, he was as happy as if he had heard the good news of Sudasa's son's arrival, and he certainly spoke these words: 'Because of craving human flesh, he has lost his kingdom, and like a madman, he has no autonomy. He has abandoned his own Dharma, and his merit and fame have declined. He is in a state of being in a situation where he should be sad. Where do I have the opportunity to overcome him? How can one be afraid of such a person? Even without a battle, I must first destroy his sins. I should go and seize him, and bring him before me.'

arrived. Therefore, I must entertain him. The holy ones also entertain in that way. Then he instructed the people in the palace, "Do well as you have been instructed," after which the concubines and attendants were unhappy, their hearts were troubled, and their eyes were filled with tears. Their voices were hoarse, and the words they spoke were confused. Those who blocked the road sighed, then recovered, and went away, making a great clamor, saying, "Where is he?" Sudāsa's son tied his waist with a dirty cloth, his head's hair was disheveled, long, and covered with dust, and his forehead was bound with bark. His face was dark, covered with a tangled, long beard. Because of anger and ferocity, his eyes were wide open, and he looked terrifying. Holding a sword and shield, he saw him chasing after the king's routed army. Without fear or hesitation. "Hey, boy, I am the moon, I am here. What can that evil greed that engages in eating human flesh do? Go back, return!" Sudāsa's son also heard the sound of that call. Like a lion, with pride, he then returned. Seeing the Bodhisattva alone, without a shield or weapons, naturally appearing peaceful. He said, "I am also looking for you." Without reservation or hesitation, he ran towards him with ferocity, came to him, struck his shoulder, and then ran away. The Bodhisattva also knew that his mind was bewildered by ferocity and arrogance, his heart was flustered, and the king's army was routed, which made him very happy, but he was also suspicious. Thinking, "Now is not the time to subdue him," he left him alone. Sudāsa's son, also because his wish was fulfilled, was overjoyed as if he had obtained great wealth, and returned to his dwelling. Filled with many skeletons of those who had been killed. The ground was rough, moistened with blood. Jackals howled, spitting flames, making unpleasant sounds. Like threatening with harsh, angry words. Vultures with trees of red leaves in their mouths. The smoke from burning many corpses changed color. Rākṣasas and pretas danced, ominous signs were frightening. Guests would turn their eyes away when they saw it from afar. Having entered such a place, the Bodhisattva was there.
