Therefore. The sound of the gods' drums makes the sky laugh. Other places are decorated with trees, flowers, fruits, and leaves. All directions become as beautiful as the splendor of autumn. The sun's rays are also as clear as blue. That ocean is also clear and turbulent, as if coming to it with joy. Then those people gradually walked and walked, reaching the seashore, where the heat, thirst, and fatigue disappeared, just as the Great Being had indicated. Not far from there, they saw an elephant that had died, its corpse having been there for a long time. They thought: Emaho, this elephant! The owner of the elephant must be something like this too. Is this the brother of that great elephant? A relative? Or a son? Like this, even if dust falls, its body appears like a white snow mountain. Beautiful like a pile of white lotuses. Like a pile of moonlight. This is like its reflection, as if in a mirror. Then some of the very intelligent people among them observed and thought: This must surely be that elephant, like the elephant of the directions. It seems that it abandoned its body from this mountain in order to save us, who are without relatives, poor, and miserable. Like the sound of airplanes in the sky and the earth shaking, we all heard it, it must have fallen. This body is like a white lotus root. Like moonlight, the white hair and spots on the body are beautiful. The nails are shaped like a turtle, white, and the limbs are all white. The back is curved like a bow, and the body is very beautiful. That is the face full of intoxication. The huge face emits fragrance and is very beautiful. The tall and beautiful head has no hook marks. That thick neck is also this one. It has the characteristic of proudly sweeping the cliffs. The white tusks are these two. Who showed us this path? It is this long finger. Alas, this is truly amazing. Our lineage, customs, and faith, we have never seen before, even we who are unlucky think like this.

慈悲啊！对于亲友们来说，这是多么奇异的事情啊！对于这位伟大的有缘者，我等以各种方式顶礼膜拜。贫穷困苦，恐惧而又悲伤痛苦，像我们这样的人能得到这样的帮助。这位像大象一样显现的是谁啊？毫不动摇地彰显高尚的品行，这样美好的行为是从哪里学来的呢？依止于哪位上师而承侍恭敬呢？没有功德，外表是不会变得美好的。人们所说的话语，在这件事之前就有了。唉玛吙！自性高贵而又圆满，如实成办此事已经昭示了。即使它已经死去，我也心满意足。犹如雪山般美丽的身体雄伟壮丽。因此，他是如此这般，是谁比亲友还要慈爱，施予帮助，为了利益我们而献出自己的生命。谁能忍心吃掉这位如此尽善尽美者的肉呢？我们应当供养它，并且按照火葬的仪式来偿还恩情。人们这样想着，就像失去亲人一样，内心充满了悲伤，眼睛里充满了泪水，声音哽咽。一些心志坚定的人经过思考后说道：如果那样做，我们并不能真正地供养和尊敬这头伟大的象王，只有圆满它的心愿，才能算是我们对它的供养。为了救度我们，这位素不相识的亲友，舍弃了极其珍爱的身体，给予了我们极其珍贵的款待。因此，我们应当圆满它的心愿。如果不是这样，它所做的一切都将变得毫无意义。它如此慈爱，将自己所拥有的一切都作为款待，如果我们不接受，又如何能表达对它的尊敬呢？因此，应当像对待上师一样，听从它的话语，给予盛大的供养，这样也能利益我们自己，从痛苦中解脱出来。大家各自都应该像供养逝去的善知识一样，为这头伟大的象王做所有的事情。之后，为了让那些人从荒无人烟的旷野中解脱出来，也要忆念象王主人的心愿，听从他的话语……

Compassion! What a strange thing this is for relatives and friends! To this great fortunate one, we prostrate and pay homage in every way. Impoverished and distressed, fearful and afflicted with sorrow, we receive such help. Who is this being who appears like an elephant? Unwaveringly displaying noble conduct, where did he learn such virtuous behavior? Which lama did he rely on and serve with reverence? Without merit, one's appearance cannot become beautiful. The words that people speak existed before this event. Emaho! The nature is noble and perfect, and accomplishing this matter as it is has been revealed. Even though it has died, I am content. Like a snow mountain, the beautiful body is magnificent and majestic. Therefore, who is he who is more loving than relatives and friends, offering help, and sacrificing his own life for our benefit? Who can bear to eat the flesh of this one who is so perfect? We should make offerings to it and repay its kindness by performing the funeral rites. Thinking in this way, people were filled with sorrow as if they had lost a loved one, their eyes filled with tears, and their voices choked with sobs. Some with steadfast minds, after contemplating the matter, said: If we do that, we will not truly be offering and honoring this great elephant king. Only by fulfilling its wishes will we be making offerings to it. In order to save us, this unfamiliar friend has given up his most precious body and has given us an extremely precious treat. Therefore, we should fulfill his wishes. If not, everything he has done will become meaningless. He is so loving, offering everything he has as a treat. If we do not accept it, how can we express our respect for him? Therefore, we should listen to his words as if he were a lama, and give great offerings, which will also benefit ourselves and liberate us from suffering. Everyone should do everything for this great elephant king as if offering to departed virtuous friends. After that, in order to liberate those people from the desolate wilderness, they should also remember the wishes of the elephant king's master, listen to his words...
