Moreover, great difficulties arose among the human race. Needless to say, like seizing the flesh and tree owners of the elephant herd, if there are no mistakes in the coming human race, have these people lost their way from the direction? They treated those people as aliens. The king seemed angry and expelled them. Like this, these people are weak, the joyful shouts have disappeared, and the sounds of extreme pain and poverty resound like smoke. Therefore, I wonder what this is, let's investigate it for a while. The great being was led by great compassion and went in the direction where the human voice was coming from. He listened to the words of wailing and sorrow, and the sound of smoke, and his heart was moved by compassion. The great warrior quickly went there and came out of the dense forest. Because there were no trees and bushes in that place, he looked into the distance. He saw about seven hundred people suffering from hunger, thirst, and fatigue, coming from the other side of the forest. Those people also saw the great warrior coming towards them like the peak of a snow mountain, autumn clouds, or fog moved by the wind. After seeing it, they felt scared and unhappy. They thought: Now we are all going to be killed. Although they were afraid, they could not escape because of hunger, thirst, and fatigue. Those people, although very scared, became weak due to hunger, thirst, and fatigue, and were depressed because of unhappiness and fear, so they could not try to escape. Then, the Bodhisattva realized that they were afraid and said: I will not bring fear to you. Don't be afraid, don't be afraid! He raised his trunk, which was a little reddish and oily, and exhaled. He went to them and asked like a compassionate person: Who are you? Why have you become like this and live here? Dust and sunlight have made your complexion haggard and thin. Sorrow, pain, and poverty, who are you? Where did you come from here? Then, those people heard the human voice and the promise to give them no fear, which made them happy, and their hearts were strengthened by it. They paid homage to him and said: Elephant King, we are the king

Consumed by the winds of anger, Relatives and friends grieve as if bereaved, Having been expelled and sent here, Even relatives and friends have departed. If you would but glance upon us, We would have remaining fortune. Surely, the goddess of fortune will manifest. Having fallen before your eyes, We shall be liberated from this poverty. Even seeing you in a dream, Who would not be freed from poverty? Then, the elephant asked those people, "How many of you are here?" Those people replied, "O desirable one with a majestic form, we are about a thousand, Having been cast here by the lord of the earth. Most of them, not having experienced suffering, Have perished, tormented by hunger and thirst. Chief of elephants, here among us, There are about seven hundred remnants of people. Having escaped from the mouth of the lord of death, You have come like a body giving breath." Having heard those words, that great bodhisattva, accustomed to compassion, grieved and shed tears, and spoke these words to them: "Alas! Do not be so amazed by afflictions. Without compassion, and without any restraint. The king's mind does not consider the next life, The king's glory is as unstable as lightning. Having no thought of benefiting me, he seizes power. The demon of death comes with malice. Have you not heard that the end of sin is long? Clinging to conceptual thoughts, there is no way to advise with words. The king is afflicted by afflictions, becoming helpless. Becoming the basis of disease, wasting away, Like this, for the sake of this single body, Not cherishing compassion for sentient beings, Alas! What is to be done with this ignorance?" Then, the lord of the elephants, with compassion, thought with loving-kindness towards those people, "These ones are so exhausted by hunger, thirst, and fatigue, The body is emaciated and weak. How can they escape from this vast wilderness, without water or shade, and without provisions for the journey? Even in the forest of elephants, there is no place where they can stay for even a day without being afflicted, what is to be done? I will make my flesh their provisions, and my intestines a water container like a leather bag, Thus, they may escape from this wilderness, there is no other way."
