Unable to, afterwards able to play the lute and sing songs. Then he grabbed the hand of Golden Garland Woman, carried the young nurturer on his shoulder, and said this: Lovely child, born from the lineage of heroes, suffering greatly with you, Yubu finally obtained begging. On the day of unbearable karma done in the past, who would trust the impermanent power like a mirage? Having become the son of Ashoka (Sanskrit: Aśoka), yet obtained such a situation. The karma done is connected with the assembly, having such a result. Because karma was done together, let us enjoy it together. Therefore, what should we do now? Let us go to Pataliputra (Sanskrit: Pāṭaliputra) and pray to King Ashoka. That monarch who possesses the power of the world, is my father who endures suffering, he is the place of giving, and is always affectionate towards me. Afterwards, Kunle played the lute and sang songs, and in this way made a living in other people's homes. Declining from great service, future lowly sentient beings, who would give to a righteous person who lives by begging? Having abandoned parents, without enjoyment, without food and bedding, without a home, a blind person in extreme suffering, mother, please give alms! Enjoyment is like lightning, like a dewdrop, with the sweet words of giving to the poor, quickly obtain the essence! The poor person's hair is disheveled, despised by all in the world, wealth is declining, begging from house to house, mother, please give alms! Afterwards, Kunle completely enjoyed the alms he obtained with his wife. Golden Garland Woman also followed along the road from which she came from Pataliputra. After he went, he arrived at the place of the Wheel of Dharma. Afterwards, Kunle asked Golden Garland Woman: Good woman, which city is this where Yubu went? The queen saw it and fainted to the ground. After a moment, she regained consciousness and said: When walking in splendor, hundreds of thousands of people gather here. You have come here today, having lost your eyes, what is impossible for the changing fabrications?

Then, gradually, he went to Pataliputra. After that, he started to enter the garden called "Delightful Grove," which King Ashoka had made for his son Kunala. As he was about to enter, the garden keeper saw him and said: Who is this blind man, so inauspicious and unworthy of praise, who has entered this garden? Alas, blind man, don't you know that this garden is guarded for the sake of Kunala, the son of King Ashoka, the ruler of Jambudvipa? Golden Garland said: Alas, how sad! The king, out of love for his son, built this garden so that my son would be happy. We went there to live, but because of poverty and bad luck, we didn't know, so we were driven away like that. We didn't even get the chance to approach the place where the young man was, where there was beautiful and pleasant singing, and the young man was lying on a bed with legs of lapis lazuli, playing and enjoying himself, a delightful place. Then, in order to comfort him, Kunala said: The Tathagata said that kingship and wealth are like illusion, dreams, and mirages. If prosperity and decline come in turn, then which wise person would desire the happiness of kingship? After that, the young man returned again, determined to enter Pataliputra, and when he arrived there, he entered the Golden Garland tavern at the city gate. Kunala asked: What is this? She said: From which it previously arose, which once adorned the city, now it is without it, the withered garland will be discarded. Soon, he gradually spent the night in his father's elephant stable. After that, King Ashoka slept on the palace roof at night, and when he woke up in the middle of the night, he began to think of the young man, wondering: What has become of my truthful son? The palace guard said: The young man is well. The king said: My son has no messenger, and there is no letter either, has he forgotten me? Or has he become resentful towards me? Then, the elephant keeper said:

Pa. Hey, singer, come! For a while, play the lute and sing a song! I will listen. Then, Kunala got up and started playing the lute, and how he saw the truth after his eyes were gouged out. He went to Pataliputra (modern Patna) as a beggar and began to sing a song of noble origin. What need is there for life for one who has lost his eyes? When one sees relatives abandoning oneself and angry faces, like cutting down trees by the water, which wise person would not be saddened by meaningless aggregates? Who has diligently nurtured me like a precious tree, and out of love for his son, named me Kunala, like a bird? Even though I have become the son of the lord of men, I practice in poverty. Furthermore, the nature of the aggregates, the lamp of wisdom such as the eyes, seen by pure wisdom, that is liberation from beings. If you are tormented by the sufferings of samsara, be sure to recognize the faults of samsara. If you want to obtain stable happiness here, pray for stability in the aggregates. King Ashoka heard his song. After hearing it, he said happily: The song is very similar to Kunala's voice, and I haven't heard the sound of the lute for a long time. Is Kunala coming here? I would be happy to see him in the future. Then, King Ashoka said to a man named Nyungrum: Hey, young man, this song is very similar to Kunala's voice, so understand it as showing steadfastness and instability. Therefore, this sound here is more wavering than steadfast, just like the sound of a lion, making the elephant very afraid. Then, Nyungrum went to the elephant stable and saw Kunala, whose eyes had been gouged out and whose body was burned by the wind and heat, but did not recognize him. Then, he said to the elephant trainer: Who is this? The elephant trainer said: This is a blind man, a person without eyes. He went back and reported to the king: O god, there is a blind man with a lute, together with his wife, in the elephant stable of the gods.
