King Ashoka then commanded: "The king of the four great oceans, who is extremely brave, powerful, and unimpededly suppresses enemies, and who has completely conquered with skill, and whose feet are completely touched by the crowns on the heads of the lords of the earth, who is free from sorrow and without worry, who constantly lives by virtuous deeds from the city of Magadha to Pataliputra, and between the place of Stone Settlement, understand this in such a way that the city residents will know. The queen said: The prince is well. After a while, the king fell asleep again, and the gatekeeper queen sealed the letter and sent it to Tordzok (Stone Encampment). When the king fell asleep again, he dreamed that his own teeth were falling out. After that, the king, after that night had passed, summoned the diviners, repeated the dream, and ordered them to interpret these. The diviners said: Whichever deity sees such an omen will see the son's eyes destroyed. They also said: Whose teeth are loose, And fall out in a dream, The son's eyes are destroyed, He will see the son destroyed. Having heard these words, the king quickly rose from the sorrowless bed and began to pray to the gods in the four directions. He said: The Buddha, Dharma, and the chief of the Sangha, The Sangha, the manifest, and whatever gods there are, And whatever worldly sages, the best of ascetics, Protect my beloved son from suffering! That letter also gradually went to Stone Encampment. Then, the people of Stone Encampment, seeing that letter, because they were very pleased with Kunala's great qualities, were not happy and could not interpret it. After a long time of thinking, they (thought): The king is cruel and behaves badly, and does not even forgive his son, how will he forgive us? They also said: Having the nature of the Able One, subdued, Wishing benefit to all beings, If even Kunala is hated, How can we escape? After a while, the people of the city showed the letter to the prince. Then, the prince placed his father's letter on his head.

Having taken it, he said to the scribes: "Scribes, read what the king has written here, up to 'written by King Ashoka himself.'" Then, as the scribe read, his eyes filled with tears, and he became completely bewildered, so that the letter fell from his hand. The second scribe picked it up, and he too became completely bewildered, and it fell from his hand in the same way. Similarly, many scribes picked it up, and upon hearing the meaning of the letter, and fully recalling the virtues of Kunalai, they wondered, "What is this?" and the letter fell. Then, the youth, seeing their actions, said: "Like the eyes of a young deer, a face like a lotus petal, my mother named Padma, who speaks sweetly, has she passed away? The one who would be pleased if seen by the gods, the one called the Protector of the Kingdom, has she been afflicted by the disease of sorrow and passed away? With beautiful eyes, renowned throughout the world, having seen the happiness and prosperity of the most excellent city, why are tears clouding my eyes, and what is this sound of people weeping?" Therefore, bring the letter here for a moment, and I myself will read what is written here. The youth himself began to read the letter, reading in detail up to 'written by King Ashoka himself.' Then, after the youth read the letter, he made the venerable Kirtirata appear, and the venerable Kirtirata said: "The eyes are impermanent," which was well said. Then the youth said: "Is there anyone among you who is willing to pluck out the eyes of Bai with pleasure? That is what must be done!" None of them were willing. After a while, the youth summoned those of low birth and said: "Pluck out the eyes of Kunalai!" Those people joined their palms and said: "We will not pick up stones, why? Because the person who plucks out the eyes from a face as radiant as the moon, we will pluck out your eyes from your moon-like face." Then, the youth proclaimed to the inhabitants of the city of Stone Pillars: "Whoever desires merit, come to the King of Dharma!"
