Didn't you hear what Time (དས་ཀྱིས，梵文 काल，kāla，Time) said? The essence of the three realms (འཇིག་རྟེན་གསུམ), worshiped by gods and humans (ལྷ་མི), even the mighty with strength cannot escape the end of strength. Since one can never escape from the karma of past deeds, what need is there to mention others like me? It is said that this plot of King Ashoka (མྱ་ངན་མེད) was done by the Queen Mother (རྒྱལ་སྲུང་མ). After hearing this, the king summoned the Queen Mother and said: Unfortunate one, why hasn't Sarani been destroyed? Because you destroy the Dharma and make me unhappy, associating with what is not Dharma, like stealing my glory, you, the extreme evildoer, should be abandoned. Then, the king, ablaze with the fire of wrath, looked at the Queen Mother and said: Gouge out her eyes, or tear her body apart, with extremely sharp nails, or impale her alive on the tip of a spear, dismember her body and so on. Or cut off her tongue with a razor, strike her in the manner of an enemy, and cut off her head. Or throw her into a fire like the fire at the end of an eon, or fill her body with poison. Like this, various plots of killing were spoken by the king of men (མི་ཡི་དབང་པོ). Upon hearing this, Kunala (ཀུ་ན་ལ), who possessed the nature of compassion, prayed to that great being. Then, King Ashoka (མྱ་ངན་མེད) was agitated by the all-consuming fire of wrath, and single-mindedly sought a way to destroy the Queen Mother. Kunala (ཀུ་ན་ལ) prostrated with his head and spoke with a voice of compassion: Divine one, it is not right to kill this woman. The king said: Who has destroyed your and my body, and you still say such words, you are wrong. Kunala (ཀུ་ན་ལ) said: Even so, from that time until now, I have no anger towards her and the executioner, and that young nurturer, but rather I cultivate compassion towards them. The king said: You are controlled by compassion, who would believe such words? Kunala (ཀུ་ན་ལ) said: Indeed, one who takes oneself as the standard within, and also possesses the six superknowledges (མངོན་པར་ཤེས་པ་དྲུག), the great sage, and others who know the minds of others can bear witness. 如果真是那样，请让我和世人亲眼见证。事情是这样的： 希毗王为了鸽子而割舍身体，通过宣说真实语，恢复了之前的身体，听闻此事后，你也同样通过宣说真实语，恢复之前的眼睛吧！库纳拉回答说：“我愿意这样做。”于是，库纳拉在聚集了成百上千的婆罗门和居士，以及国王及其眷属的场合中，显现了世尊的慈悲等功德，面向东方，宣说了这句真实语：“以我对于王后和王子之间，从那时到现在都没有丝毫厌恶之心，并且对于我的独子和养育者都怀有同样的慈悲和慈爱之心的真实语，愿我的眼睛恢复如初！”话音刚落，库纳拉的眼睛就恢复如初了。之后，国王和城市居民们都发出“哎呀！哎呀！”的高呼声，观看着这般奇妙的景象。 之后，当无忧王准备为库纳拉举行王位加冕仪式时，库纳拉说：“伟大的国王，我不需要王位，我已经亲眼见证了真理。”于是，国王为年轻的养育者举行了王位加冕仪式。之后，在某个间隙，国王又为了王后的缘故祈祷说：“即使王后做了不合宜的事情，您也不要做不合宜的事情，不要像愚昧的女人一样。因为没有像忍耐一样的力量，所以如来赞叹以忍耐为主的种姓。”不久之后，无忧王非常愤怒，将王后关在茅屋里烧死了，彻底摧毁了石匠的城市。 之后，比丘们对比丘说：“库纳拉做了什么样的业，导致他的眼睛被挖出，又重新长了出来呢？”他们心生疑惑，于是向住持声询问。住持声回答说：“因此，有寿命的人们，请听着。比丘们，过去在久远之前的时代，在瓦拉纳西城里，有一个猎人。”

If that is so, please let me and the world witness it. It is like this: King Shibi cut off his body for the sake of a pigeon, and by declaring the truth, he restored his previous body. Having heard of this, you too, by declaring the truth, restore your previous eyes! Kunala replied, "I will do so." Then, in the presence of hundreds of thousands of Brahmins and householders, and the king and his retinue, Kunala manifested the qualities of the Blessed One, such as compassion, and facing east, he spoke this true statement: "By the truth that I have no aversion between the queen and the prince, from that time until now, and by the truth that I have the same compassion and loving-kindness for my only son and the one who raised him, may my eyes be restored to their former state!" As soon as the words were spoken, Kunala's eyes were restored to their former state. Then, the king and the city dwellers cried out, "Alas! Alas!" and gazed at such a wonderful sight. Then, when King Ashoka was about to enthrone Kunala as regent, Kunala said, "Great King, I do not need the kingdom, for I have seen the truth." Then, the king enthroned the young foster-father as regent. Then, in the meantime, the king prayed for the sake of the queen, saying, "Even if the queen has done something inappropriate, you should not do something inappropriate, do not act like a foolish woman. Because there is no strength like patience, the Tathagata praises the lineage that is primarily patient." Soon after, King Ashoka became very angry and locked the queen in a thatched house and burned her to death, and completely destroyed the city of stonemasons. Then, the monks wondered, "What karma did Kunala do that caused his eyes to be gouged out and then grow back?" They were in doubt, so they asked the Venerable Ghosha. The Venerable Ghosha replied, "Therefore, listen, you who are endowed with life. Monks, in the past, in a bygone era, in the city of Varanasi, there was a hunter."
