Although she was as loving as my mother, at that time she could not work alone and would become completely depressed, and even the wages she earned could not support her life. Therefore, I too must experience my own sins and do the work of a hired laborer, thinking in this way, she entered another's house with that maid and began to do the work of a hired laborer. Because she was very young, she was completely tormented by the suffering of hunger and so on, and fainted again and again while working. Then, completely depressed, she sighed deeply and remembered Captain Earer, and fell into sorrow, alas! To exist in such a perverse way is suffering! She who was once the most excellent of all cities, and having experienced the abundance of glory, and in this life was the most excellent of all cities. Now, in another's house, she experiences the suffering and unpleasantness of working as a hired laborer. She was thus completely tormented by suffering, and looking at the smoke, that maid began to weep, alas! In this very life, the wife of Captain Earer, like Rasakashipa and others, wearing various kinds of clothes, adorned with many fragrant garlands of flowers on her body, carrying items perfumed with the fragrance of various spices, like a goddess, going to the pleasure garden of joy, giving alms to male servants, female servants, hired laborers, friends, and relatives, and all kinds of food, drink, clothes, and ornaments, but now in this very life, with disheveled hair and a body covered with filth, and a body and limbs, etc., completely withered by the suffering of hunger and so on, covering the waist with a piece of old, dirty, and foul-smelling old cloth that has become worth a hundred thousand, having become the lowest of all city dwellers, working as a hired laborer in another's house, experiencing suffering and great unpleasantness. Alas! The perversity of fate! Alas! Deeply deceived by the things to be enjoyed! Alas!

Again, various aspects of karma were described. They wore fine silk clothes and were adorned with all sorts of ornaments. Formerly, they were like goddesses, but now they wander the streets. Their merit has been exhausted, their bodies are covered in dirt, and they wear old, smelly rags. Now they have become like this. Formerly, they were like goddesses, nectar to the eyes of men. Now, they are like hungry ghosts, and the sight of them is repulsive. Formerly, they were rich and prosperous, the best of the city dwellers. Now, they have become poorer than the poor. Formerly, they enjoyed great abundance with joy, but now they have obtained this state of sorrow and suffering. Alas, the nature of samsara is evil! Alas, prosperity is impermanent! Those who were once so happy have become vessels of suffering. Then, the wife of the caravan leader, together with the daughter of Mangagzhuk, in the same order, went to work as laborers in other people's homes. Due to the merit of the ugly youth, the daily wages they earned decreased day by day. After some time, one day they were made to work all day until sunset, but they earned nothing. No matter what work they did, no one would hire them. After some time, the wife of the caravan leader and the daughter of Mangagzhuk consulted together, saying, "Now they won't even let us work. We must beg in every way." So, they took their begging bowls and began to beg. When the ugly youth was able to walk, his mother said to him, "Son, now you go and beg for yourself, and then enjoy it." Saying this, she gave him the begging bowl. He took the begging bowl and went into the market. His skin was very dark, his appearance was very ugly, and he had eighteen bad marks. When people saw his repulsive body, they turned away in disgust and walked away with their heads down. When he went to the door of someone's house, a very unpleasant smell emanated from his body, and people had to hold their noses.

They beat him with wood, stones, and tiles, treating him like an unclean person of the city who knows how to go to the dirty mud, and drove him away, saying, "Go away from here quickly!" Wherever he went, they beat and drove him away with wood, stones, and tiles. He did not get even a single begged item, and because he was beaten with wood, stones, and tiles, even his begging bowl was broken. While lamenting, he went to his mother, and being very dejected, he began to weep. Then she saw him, beat her chest, and said, "Alas, my child, you are suffering! Without harming anyone, which one who has abandoned compassion has beaten you like this and made you suffer?" Then the ugly youth, with a loud voice and weeping, said, "To whichever house door I go to beg, there, tiles, stones, wood, and so on, strike me." Having heard that, the caravan leader's wife embraced the ugly youth's neck, and with a loud voice and weeping, said, "Even though you are without fault, but being beaten by others, in another life, my child, you must have done bad deeds. Alas, you are suffering! Completely separated from all happiness, having become so ugly, seeing such a lowly person, how can a sentient being not generate compassion? Alas, I, who am destroyed and decayed! Your child's begging vessel, being destroyed is also like the body being destroyed, as you live only by begging. Separated from father and mother, and without a home to rely on, which one who has abandoned compassion has destroyed your begging vessel? All lineages have decayed, and you are completely abandoned by friends and relatives, the lama and friend have become the only refuge, who has destroyed your begging vessel? Alas, having seen the poor, lowly child, who has shown you a majestic demeanor? Alas, by your own karma from the past, you, the poor child, have been destroyed by harm. Alas, being brave towards a lowly child, which one whose heart does not think of love, like a stone and brick being rough, which sentient being is that, tell me today? Alas, one who is destroyed in every way!"
