Similarly, the one who makes the sutra also said: There is no fault in dwelling in the same place as those and the heretics, and being together with them. As for "never committing an offense," etc., if one never commits an offense, why did the capable one say that it is appropriate to expel? Compassionate one, please explain clearly. It should be connected in this way. "Never" means until the end of life. "Offense" refers to the Sangha remnant. "Not committing" means prohibition. "Appropriate to expel" means it is said to be appropriate to practice expulsion. "Loving" means possessing compassion. The meaning here is: Even until the end of life, one does not commit any Sangha remnant offense, yet the Blessed One said that only expulsion is appropriate. What is this like? Diligent in benefiting others, please explain it clearly to me. This is the meaning. The answer to this is: This was said with the intention of giving expulsion to heretics. Similarly, here the scripture is: Venerable, one never commits an offense, yet he is also an exile. Is that so? The attendant replied: Yes, it is. It is an exile of heretics. As for "not committing an offense," etc., if one does not commit an offense, if one gives expulsion, why did the capable one say that there is no offense? Please tell me definitively. It should be connected in this way. Among them, "not committing an offense" means not committing Sangha remnants. "Expulsion" means the act of cutting off sins. Therefore, if a Sangha remnant arises, why does the Sangha give expulsion? However, for the Sangha, it has never been said that there is any offense. What is this like? Please tell me. The answer to this is: This was said with the intention of expelling heretics. Similarly, here the scripture is: Venerable, the Sangha bestows expulsion on one who has not committed an offense, and it does not turn into an offense. Is that so? The attendant replied: Yes, it is for heretics. As for "if the new surpasses the old, then it is okay," etc., "surpasses" means to exceed, meaning to surpass the elders. If one surpasses whom? It is said: surpasses the old. Who surpasses? It is said: the new. Meaning the younger generation.

It is so. The dwelling place is the monastery and so on, because of residing and staying here. The meaning of 'make it return' is the same request. Therefore, when a newly ordained monk uses an elder and first obtains a dwelling place, monastery, bed, small bed, etc., at that time, because he has exceeded the order of seniority, he will commit a downfall of misconduct, which is a definite meaning. It is stated in the sutra that wood and the like should also be used in turn like the order of seniority. Likewise, it is said that everything should be used like the order of seniority. However, the Blessed One said that there is no downfall for those who have exceeded the order of seniority. What is the reason for this? It should be explained. The answer to this is: it is said so based on obtaining the basis of abandonment. Likewise, here the scripture is: Monks, the Blessed One has taught that young monks should not use elder monks to obtain a dwelling place. What is the reason for this? Monks, young monks use elder monks to obtain a dwelling place, is it not even to the point of committing a downfall? The attendant Ananda replied: Yes, for those who abandon because of the affairs of the Sangha, or abandon because of service, or want to flee from somewhere because of fighting or fear. The use of the dwelling place itself, etc., is why the Able One proclaimed the use of the dwelling place itself as innocent and guilty? Call out and tell me clearly. The dwelling place is the cushion and the cushion of the cushion and so on. That is the meaning of wanting to say. Innocent means no downfall. Guilty means with downfall. The meaning here is that if a dwelling place is sometimes used for things that harm the Dharma, then a downfall will definitely be committed. However, if it is used as it comes out of the ritual, then it is definitely innocent. However, the Blessed One did not proclaim guilt and innocence in the same place. What is the reason for this? It should be explained. The answer to this is: it is said so based on the authority of an individual to use the dwelling place of the Sangha. Likewise, here the scripture is: Monks, dwelling place...
