These are also included as branches of killing. Other harms mean using stones, sticks, etc., or anything that becomes a cause of harm. Towards people, from beating to inflicting, one should not engage in any behavior that would harm others. Do not harm cows, etc., which means including all livestock; do not cause harm to them. Do not ride horses, etc., which means that for the Three Jewels, parents, and the king's punishment, one should not ride until it is impossible to go, or until one cannot walk on foot. If one cannot, then ride, but even then, one should have compassion, just like riding a lame donkey. This concludes the explanation of killing. Now, I will explain taking what is not given. It has six branches, and if all are complete, it is a root downfall. What are they? Taking what is not given, having the intention to steal, the value is complete, it is held by someone, recognizing that it is held, and claiming it as one's own. If these branches are complete, it is a root downfall; if one of them is missing, it becomes a transgression. The initial enactment of these occurred when the monk Endowed with Wealth, who had ordained from being a potter, took what was not given after ordaining while residing in the Grove of Light in the King's City. The term "śrāmaṇera" means striving for virtue or being diligent; it is called śrāmaṇera because of being slow. "Of oneself or others" means that there are two types of thieves: stealing oneself or entrusting others to steal. Entrusting also has two types: entrusting directly or even entrusting through a messenger. "Intention to steal" means stealing with the intention of stealing. "By force" means like forcibly seizing. "By deception" means that there are many types of thieves, stealing by using deception, trickery, disguise, etc. "Without confusion" means recognizing it as one's own and without error. In short, not mistaking it for one's own property, not being in a state of mental intoxication, etc., that is the meaning of having the intention to steal. "Not of another" means that stealing one's own property does not result in a root downfall because it was not previously stipulated, so it is not necessary as a branch. Other than oneself, i.e., another. "From the location" means that if it is not moved, even if one has the intention to steal, the vow will not be broken because it has not been moved.

In short, it transcends the boundaries of where things are located. A boundary is defined as being separated by the sky in between, or surpassing the land itself, such as the color of the land, or a fat livestock being separated from the end of its head or tail from its back, or a thin livestock, if not dead, being separated from the connection of its ribs. The so-called "five masha" is because one karshapana has twenty mashakas, so a quarter of a karshapana has five masha. Among them, mashaka can be reduced, but karshapana cannot be reduced. Similarly, for silver, there is no change. For grains, it can be changed, calculated based on the share of one sho of silver, five masha will fail. The so-called "things that come from one's own place" means that the value of the place should be valued, that is, where the owner is and where the theft occurred. In short, the value of that place itself should be calculated. The so-called "stealing a quarter of a karshapana" is calculated upwards from five masha, because one karshapana has twenty mashakas, one karshapana has twenty mashakas, so a quarter of a karshapana is five masha. If the value is calculated, it is one-eighth of four sho. If this is stolen, the precepts will be broken. The so-called "stealing this will break the precepts" refers to stealing one-eighth of a sho of silver, which will result in failure. The so-called "committing a crime at the time of union" is like a monk, there are not many distinctions between offenses. From the initial preparation for theft until the item has not moved from its position, it constitutes a crime. The so-called "stone" refers to small stones and so on. The so-called "root" refers to medicine and so on. The so-called "fruit" refers to fruits, such as apples, peaches, and grapes, etc. The so-called "tree" refers to a tree like a sapling, that is, a tree that grows leaves, fruits, and good fruits. If other roots are cut, a crime is committed; if one root is cut, the value must be calculated. The so-called "trunk" refers to things like sugarcane and bamboo, etc. If moved or cut, it will fail. The so-called "leaves" refers to collecting vegetables such as coriander, or stealing vegetables like mustard greens. The so-called "bark" refers to tree roots and so on. The so-called "water" refers to the water of trees and drinking water for those traveling in the wilderness. If taken, but if human drinking water is stolen, it will fail. If livestock steals, it constitutes a crime. The so-called "flower" refers to two kinds of flowers, which will be mentioned below. Aquatic plants
