When praised that it would become a great result, the monks practiced the impure contemplation, and felt disgusted and懈怠 with this purulent body, thus all kinds of disgust, even stabbing with weapons, also eating poison, also hanging themselves, also jumping off cliffs, and monks also killed monks. After that, a monk disgusted with the body, said to the staff-holding heretic guarding asceticism: 'Handsome one, kill me, and the袈裟 will be yours.' After that, the staff-holder killed that monk's life, and washed the bloody swords in the river named Yueyi. After that, a son of heaven demon stayed in a place where the river did not touch the flow, and praised the staff-holder for performing good deeds and sentient beings, etc. The staff-holder also coveted the袈裟 and alms bowl, thinking that I want to do good deeds, so he put the sharp swords under his armpits, and from the scripture hall to the walking place, one after another killed sixty monks, causing the monks to decrease and decline. After that, the Blessed One, on the fifteenth day of the Uposatha, observed all the bhikkhu sangha, and said to the Venerable Ananda: 'Because of what causes and conditions, now my monks are decreasing and declining?' Ananda reported the details of the matter in detail. The Blessed One said: 'Ananda, have you killed a monk?' He replied: 'Venerable, he was killed.' The Blessed One rebuked in various ways, saying: 'Not a monk', and established the precepts for the sake of ten superiorities. The cause of the matter is the country of Vriji, the person is the staff-holding heretic guarding asceticism, the affliction is intolerance, the crime is killing, and the object is a person. The Parajika of killing is explained in three ways, namely, explaining the Parajika place, explaining the Sanghavasesa place.

Even if offered, it's as if not offered, this is called abiding in pretense. Here, four aspects are established: Having offered the training but not violated it; having violated the training but not offered it; having both violated and offered the training; and having neither violated nor offered it. Among these, having offered the training but not violated it is like this: If a renunciate becomes attached or unhappy, desiring to return to lay life, because they do not pursue the goals of a renunciate, they go to a renunciate and say, "Venerable one, please listen, I, named so-and-so, offer the training." Or they offer to the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha, or they offer to the Khenpo and Acharya, this is called having offered the training. If they say, "I am a householder," or "I am a lay follower," or "I have committed the five heinous crimes," or "I am a heretic," or "I do not wish to practice Brahmacharya with you," this is having offered the training, but it is not having violated the training. How is it that one has violated the training but not offered it? It is like this: If a renunciate becomes attached and unhappy, desiring to return to lay life, they say, "Please know that practicing Brahmacharya is very solitary, and living in solitude is difficult. I miss my parents, sisters, wet nurse, and Khenpo. I will go to learn a craft. Please entrust me to a family that I like." Although they have spoken of the signs of returning to lay life, they have not said that they offer the training, this is having violated the training but not offered it. How is it that one has both violated and offered the training? A renunciate, attached and desiring to return to lay life, says, "Practicing Brahmacharya and living in solitude are difficult. I miss my parents and Khenpo, etc., please entrust me to a family that I like." Having said this, and expressing with words that they offer the training, this is called having both violated and offered the training. How is it that one has neither violated the training nor offered it? It is when one has neither spoken words of violation nor words of offering. Therefore, even if one has not offered the training, if one violates it, it will become both a violation and an offering of the training. Having violated the training without offering it, and having offered the training but as if not offered, and also not having violated it, in this way it will not become an offering. 'Mind disturbed' means that mind disturbed refers to being mad, not remembering. If I am mad, but actually not mad, but kill someone while conscious, then I have committed a defeat. Being mad, becoming unable to remember.
