Afterwards, entering the room, with reverence, to the Lama, inquire about their well-being, such as whether their body is comfortable or not. The word "body" refers to the four great elements: earth, water, fire, and wind. An imbalance in these four great elements can lead to illness. Among them, an excess of the earth element can cause indigestion and a heavy body. An excess of the water element can lead to an increase in phlegm. An excess of the fire element can lead to an excess of bile. An excess of the wind element can lead to wind disorders. Having entered in this way, pay homage with a peaceful, humble, and serving attitude, inquiring whether an imbalance in the four elements has led to illness, and inquire about their health. The word "etcetera" implies asking whether they slept well at night, and whether they were disturbed or not. Having inquired about their health in this way, what should be done? Therefore, after asking "What should be done?", for the sake of the mandala and other various activities. The meaning of what is said is that after inquiring about their health, except for prostrating to stupas, circumambulating them, and going to the toilet for urination and defecation, everything that should be done from morning until noon should be requested. Having requested in this way, create the mandala, and then one may eat the borrowed food. The word "etcetera" also includes offerings such as flowers and incense. Examine the water with a water strainer, etc., examining the top, middle, and bottom in order. Even if there is no water strainer, etc., fill the vase with a handful or leaves. Carefully observe the large and small creatures in the water, not for too long. Those with compassion should carefully examine the liquids and then use them. If there are creatures, filter them carefully. Do not harm the creatures. Grass, dung, trees, etc., whatever is needed, ensure that there are no creatures. Protect the vow of not killing living beings. The meaning of what is said is that it shows the method of examining water, etc. These After making the mandala and obtaining the borrowed food, what should be done? Therefore, it says, "Examine the water with a water strainer, etc." After that, filter the water with any of the water strainers mentioned in the Vinaya in Five Parts. These five water strainers are: spherical, triangular, with a handle, with Dharma, and the cloth that liberates. Having filtered the water in this way, it is not enough to just filter it, but also with a water strainer

After filling the ground and so on with water, one should check whether there are living beings. The word "etc." also includes bowls. How to check? Therefore, it is said, "Top, middle, and bottom in order." The order of checking is to first check whether there are living beings on the surface of the water, then in the middle, and then at the bottom. If there are no living beings, then the water can be used. If there are living beings, then the water cannot be used and should be returned to its original place. If there is no fish strainer and bowl, what should be done? Therefore, it is said, "Even if there is no fish strainer, fill the bottle with cupped hands or leaves." Even if there is no fish strainer and bowl, one can fill the water with cupped hands to check. Here, too, the checking is done in the same order as before, from top to bottom. How to check in this case? Therefore, it is said, "The large and small creatures in the water, check carefully without delay." When checking the water, one should not check with eyes afflicted with eye diseases or covered with cataracts, but with clear eyes to check whether there are small and large creatures living in the water. Even if the eyes are clear, if one stares for a long time, the eyes will become blurred and one will not be able to see the creatures, so one should not stare for a long time but repeatedly check with clear eyes until one is convinced that there are no creatures. Therefore, it is said, "Check carefully," meaning to see until one is convinced that there are no creatures and there is no doubt. Why check like that? Therefore, it is said, "The compassionate one." The ordained ones have compassion to eliminate the suffering of sentient beings, so in order to eliminate harm to sentient beings, one should check whether there are living beings. If there are no creatures born from the water, but bees and so on suddenly come and cause the water to have living beings, or if there are sudden creatures in food juices and so on, then how should they be dealt with? Therefore, it is said, "The juices should be carefully checked and then used," meaning that even for creatures that suddenly appear in filtered water and food juices, one should carefully check whether they exist.
