There is no fault in making praises etc. mixed with melodies and songs. If you do not know the songs and want to learn them, you should be led by someone who knows them and put them to study in a secluded place. Here, even if you do not actually engage in buying and selling songs and dances, it is still a fault if you use water etc. as hints and gestures. The origin of garlands, incense and perfumes, and wearing ornaments is that the Blessed One was staying in the Kalanda Grove of the Light Garden of the King's Palace (now Rajgir). At that time, when the Sangha held the temple festival, the Six Groups of monks danced after being decorated with colors, so the precepts were established. The place is the King's Palace (now Rajgir). The people are the Six Groups of monks. The affliction is hatred. The fault is wearing decorative garlands and using colors. Do not apply perfume to the body, etc., with three and a half verses explaining the faults of colors. Among them, applying perfume to the body is to make the color of the body beautiful and fragrant, and it is not allowed to make fragrant things such as agarwood and cardamom into a paste and powder and apply them to the body. Similarly, sandalwood etc. are not allowed to be applied. Do not paint in various colors with turmeric and saffron etc., even these names that are mentioned are not allowed to be applied and smeared on the body and forehead in order to make the body beautiful, proud and fragrant. The word "etc." also includes cinnabar and lead powder, and other substances that make colors beautiful. Flowers, headdresses, garlands etc. should not be worn by ascetics. It means that bouquets made of strung flowers should not be worn on the head and neck, and should be abandoned. Gold and other ornaments should not be used to decorate oneself. It means that as a practitioner, one should not decorate one's neck, hands and feet etc. with precious jewels such as gold, silver and pearls. Eye medicines such as smoke should not be applied when the eyes are not diseased. It means that as a monk, one should not apply cinnabar, saffron, camphor and mixed smoke etc. to the eyes when the eyes are not diseased. In order to make the color of the body beautiful and to generate desire, one should not look in mirrors, water and oil. Do not trim nails. One should not eat toothpaste etc. with a desire for attachment.

Do not paint the lips red. Without diseases such as scabies and smallpox, do not rub with stones and bricks in order to make the body soft and beautiful. Do not mix various fragrances in bathwater, etc. If some patrons and powerful people offer incense, even if it is impossible not to apply it to the body, in order to protect the mind, apply it for a moment and wipe it off unnoticed after the patron leaves. If it is necessary to apply sandalwood and saffron to the body for the benefit of diseases such as plague and scabies, apply it without being ridiculed by the world. A wooden bed more than one cubit high, etc. This verse shows the fault of sitting in a high place. A wooden bed higher than one cubit, that is, do not sleep on it. A bed decorated with shells, etc. Even if it is low, do not sleep on a good bed. Do not sleep, etc. It means that even if it is not one cubit high, do not sleep on a bed made of shells, conch shells, and horns, or a good low bed decorated with these. Why? If you sleep on a high, good, and large mattress, you will be attached to the comfort of sleep and arrogance will arise. In addition, it is also said to be inauspicious, so do not sleep. The permission is that when reciting and explaining the words of the Tathagata's scriptures, you can sit on a bed decorated with various jewels. Even when sitting on it, do not sit with a mind of attachment and comfort. Think that all conditioned phenomena are of the nature of momentary impermanence, and then sit down. The permission to hold leather cushions is that in remote areas and cold places, it is allowed to make bedding and cushions from leather, but it is not allowed in the central Magadha area. The permission to hold leather is that it is not allowed to use the leather of other animals, and the leather of cows, tigers, lions, bears, bears, horses, and cats, these seven are inauspicious. The world will criticize it, and it is rare, so it is not allowed to use and sit on it. If it is beneficial for the disease, there is no fault in following the doctor's instructions. Enjoying singing and dancing, etc., and where arrogance does not arise. After abandoning the branches of arrogance, it is called abiding in asceticism. This is the benefit of abandoning the fault of arrogance. For example, singing and dancing, etc.
