and those who see yakshas (གནོད་སྦྱིན་,梵文:yakṣa,梵文罗马拟音:yakṣa,meaning: night spirit) are there, he says, but if he does not say that he is, he commits a gross offense. If he says that he sees meat-eaters, but does not say that he is, then he commits a misdeed. If non-humans harass a monk who dwells in a monastery, but do not harass the noble ones, if he says that they do not harass me either, he is defeated. For the sake of the noble ones, householders spread out colorful cushions, if he says that householders also spread out colorful cushions for my sake, if he understands the meaning, he is also defeated. Except for having obtained special qualities, etc., it is shown that one will commit a misdeed. Other than that, all false words will increase sin. This means that except for having obtained special qualities as mentioned above, because of joking and jesting, etc., if one speaks false words, sin will increase and become a heavier misdeed. How to separate friends, one should not speak divisive words. This shows the second fault of speech, because reconciliation and friendship will turn into strife and separation, and the divisive words will not reconcile those who are separated, but will cause separation, one should not speak divisive words. Do not speak evil in return for evil. Do not revile in return for reviling. Do not expose shortcomings in return for exposing shortcomings. Do not strike in return for striking. This means that abandoning the faults of speech is the fourfold conduct of a renunciate. If one should not do what is unreasonable even to oneself who has faults, what need is there to say that one should not do what is unreasonable to sentient beings who are without fault? The meaning is that one should not retaliate for others speaking evil, etc. A wise person who wants to learn should strive to abandon the faults of speech. This means the fourth fault of speech, the talk of kings, the talk of thieves, the talk of merchants, etc., are all frivolous talk, they are faults of speech, a monk who wants to learn, if he is wise, should abandon them. Knowing that it will turn out that way, one should strictly restrain one's speech. This means that as mentioned above, if one commits the four faults of speech, knowing that it will turn into falsehood, gross offense, and misdeed, one should restrain and abandon them. The fourth defeat has been explained, the explanation of the four defeats is complete.

Having explained the places of defeat, now, in order to explain the minor precepts, it is said, "Grains mixed and blended," and so on. There are six types of these: "Grains mixed and blended, a specific type of drink, grain wine." This refers to making wine by mixing grains such as barley and rice, or making wine without mixing them. If one knows that it will cause intoxication, then even kusha grass should not be drunk. It will become like this: "From tree stems, flowers, and fruits, juice mixed and made into wine." Knowing that it will cause intoxication, and "Kusha grass should not be drunk." Thus blended. Like this, tree stems, that is, made from squeezing sugarcane, and the juice mixed from flowers and fruits, that is, grapes and so on, if one knows that it will cause intoxication and loss of memory, then one should not drink it oneself, nor should one give it to others. Why? "Those with vows, wishing to benefit, do not drink." This means that practitioners who have vows, abiding in the precepts, do so for their own benefit and happiness. If one drinks, what faults will there be? "If one drinks, one loses mindfulness, those with vows become unrestrained, from unrestraint, vows are lost." This means that if one drinks the various types of wine mentioned above and gives them to others, then the naturally abiding and clear mindfulness of oneself and others will be lost, the body will engage in impure actions, and the mouth will utter harsh words and other unrestrained behaviors. Thus, through unrestrained actions, one will lose vows such as killing and taking what is not given, that is, the precepts. Therefore, "Therefore, remember the Teacher's words, intoxication increases faults, even kusha grass is not drunk." Thus it is said, therefore, one should remember the true words of the Teacher, Shakyamuni Buddha, and for the place that causes loss of memory and intoxication, that is, the cause of increasing various faults, even kusha grass should not be touched, let alone anything else, this is the meaning to be expressed. Just as drinking wine becomes a transgression, so too does eating grains and dregs become a transgression. Like this, wine has four characteristics: the color, smell, taste, and intoxicating power of wine.
