It should be understood that it is close to being necessary for... Now, I will explain the transgressions that begin with "my actions," and the similarities that follow the collection of gold and silver, which will become similar faults. What are they? Like this, even if there are Dharma robes, etc., one still begs for clothes, etc. This is shown by these examples. Even if one has Dharma robes, etc., if one begs for clothes, etc., it becomes a transgression. This is the remainder of the sentence. The word "ni" means "for what reason," because for what reason, even though one has Dharma robes, etc., one still does these things, therefore it becomes a transgression. The word "etc." refers to both Dharma robes, etc., and their prices. Like this, if one has Dharma robes and the price of Dharma robes, medicine and the price of medicine, and still begs for clothes, etc., it will show this meaning. This is a summary word. From hail, horns, teeth, bones, etc., among the things that should not be done. "The nature of horns, the nature of teeth, the nature of bones," each word of nature should be connected separately. The word "horn" refers to the horns of animals. A novice should not make needles, etc., like that. Similarly, regarding the phrase "nor should one adorn with gold," the word "gold" refers to good color. One should not hold things adorned with it. The word "also" is said to connect it. Gold is used to represent other precious jewels. Among the things that should not be done, such as buying and selling for profit, with the intention of gaining, thinking that gain can be achieved for oneself. Taking clothes, etc., at a very small price is buying. Selling it with the same price mentality after taking it is selling. The word "etc." refers to collecting interest, etc. A novice should not do all of these things. This is the remainder of the sentence. What is specifically excluded here is that it is said, "If there is a need, there is no fault." If there is a need, then there is no fault in buying and selling. In the case of need, if there is no medicine, etc., selling clothes, etc., is not a fault. If one wants to buy, a novice wants to buy clothes. If one wants to buy, what should one do at that time?

It is also said, "Also entrust to the householder," meaning that even a novice monk can entrust a householder to buy, saying, "Please give me clothes and other things," entrusting the householder to buy. One should not buy it oneself. The word 'also' means that it is not only when there are no medicines, etc. The word 'self' is to cut off oneself. 'If the entrusted person is not clever,' etc., if the entrusted householder is not clever, then the monk should say three sentences, that is, after saying it. Clever, that is, if there is no householder who is good at trade, the monk should say, 'Please give it to me at this price,' and take it after saying three sentences, that is the meaning. Except for the old and infirm and the sick, other precept holders should not embrace with their knees or carry rosaries. It means that except for the old and infirm and the sick, other precept holders should not embrace with their knees, nor should they carry yoga rosaries. Here and elsewhere, the standard for the sick is the nature of being unable to move. In addition, in order to gain profit or respect, one should not pretend to behave, speak flattering words, measure by what is gained, or be biased in flattery. The precept holder should not do it himself. If you do these things, you will become degenerate. The characteristic of those is that they pretend to behave in order to gain profit. Slandering others with greed is measuring by what is gained. Praising others is biased flattery. It is explained in this way that in order to gain profit for oneself, pretending to behave, decorating clothes, this must be the pretense of behavior that the Bhagavan has taught and declared. Measuring by what is gained is slandering others with greed, that is, slandering others in front of others with greed and craving, saying, 'This person is stingy,' etc., this is measuring by what is gained. In order to make the other party secretly gain profit, this means that biased flattery is praising the other party, praising the other party in front of others in order to gain profit, this is biased flattery. Showing and explaining the reason for the sake of profit, this is biased flattery.
