A Commentary on the Three Hundred Verses, The God of Discipline. A Commentary on the Three Hundred Verses The God of Discipline In Sanskrit: Tring Shataka Tika Vyakhyan. In Tibetan: A Commentary on the Three Hundred Verses. Homage to the Bodhisattva Manjushri, the Youth! The Sugata, having taken and protected the immeasurable precepts and possessing immeasurable qualities, Manifesting in various treatises, thoroughly abandoning evil wisdom, Eliminating all faults of speech, skillfully combining excellent words of joy with supreme meaning, May the Vinaya, the root of all who affirm existence, conquer, along with the Sutras, Abhidharma, and various treatises! Having accomplished the benefit of all other beings without exception, Having attained the supreme accomplishment of omniscience, I prostrate with my head to that Sugata. To distinguish the Bhikshu's Three Hundred Verses. Even if an explanation of the Three Hundred Verses has been made, It is not the most excellent for the Bhikshus. Therefore, having thoroughly examined this meaning, I, For the benefit of the disciples, have made an extensive explanation. Here, the teacher of the Sarvastivadins, wishing to properly gather the conduct that precedes the homage to the Bhagavan for the reason of manifestation, composed the verses beginning with "Wealth and Abode." To this, this explanation should be added: The discipline of definite renunciation should be explained. That which arises from going, that is, arising, is that which accomplishes things. It is not said that "because it goes by this, it is called going." Arising here means obtaining, not going. Why? Because the path and going are not the main things here. The arising of the remainder without exception is definite renunciation, and it is also the nature of non-retrogression and far beyond the three realms, and so on. Therefore, this shows that the realm of Nirvana without remainder of aggregates has been truly attained. Its meaning, or its cause, or the discipline that causes it to be attained, is the discipline of definite renunciation, that is, the attainment of the realm of Nirvana without remainder of aggregates, and so on.

It is like that. That is the explanation of the meaning. Gathering itself is renunciation, or, the discipline of renunciation is the way of renunciation, because the action done by discipline is its very meaning. Here, discipline should also be understood as the basis for the training of a śrāmaṇera (dge sbyong). After doing what should it be told? It is mentioned, "To touch the Buddha with the head," because the Buddha understands all things, or because he is awakened from the sleep of ignorance, therefore he is the Buddha, like a person who has awakened from sleep. Therefore, having prostrated to that Buddha, the Bhagavan. Why? Because it is mentioned, "with the head," that is, with the crown of the head. It is shown that, in this way, having touched the Tathagata with the supreme of limbs, the head, one should explain the discipline of renunciation. What kind of special qualities does the discipline of renunciation possess? It is mentioned, "related to the abode of glory and wealth," the wealth of glory is wealth, wealth is that which shows fullness. Because it is the basis, support, cause, and abode of that, like the earth is an abode, therefore it should be connected with "therefore it should be explained." This shows that, here, it is the cause of the dharma of the characteristics of eminence, such as Brahma. Through discipline, those are obtained, thus making the discipline special. With what discipline does one abandon, eliminate, and cast away the suffering of the nature of the five aggregates, that is the discipline that will abandon suffering. The five aggregates here are the aggregate of form, the aggregate of feeling, the aggregate of perception, the aggregate of mental formations, and the aggregate of consciousness. Those themselves are suffering, because they are associated with the three sufferings. Does this explain that it is the cause of nirvana without remainder of aggregates? What kind of discipline is special? It is mentioned, "the view of the perishable collection," because it destroys, decays, and exhausts, therefore it is "perishable." "Collection" is the aggregates. Perishable is also it, and collection is also it, therefore it is "perishable collection," this is a collection that distinguishes through one meaning. The view of the perishable collection is...
