For this, one should generate the thought that "one should not generate desire," and with the power of compassion, grab the hand or hair and rescue them from water or mud, that is its meaning. The word "ni" indicates a more special meaning than before. "If one sees a virtuous woman and generates desire, then the virtuous one should not stay there long." This means that wherever one lives, if one sees a virtuous woman and generates desire, or if one sees a woman and a monk generates desire, one should not live there for a long time. In order to completely avoid faults, these are to indicate the means of approach. "One should not strike the limbs with stones, etc." This means that a monk who is tormented by the fire of desire should not strike the limbs, i.e., the male organ, with stones, etc., nor should he beat it. The word "etc." includes hammers, etc. So, how can one extinguish the fire of desire? It is said, "The fire of desire is extinguished by impure water." Desire itself is fire, so it is called the fire of desire, because it completely burns. The so-called "extinguished by impure water" is because impurity itself is water, so it is called impure water. The so-called impurity is the meditation on impurity, and only such water can extinguish the fire of desire, not others. "ཉིད་" is the meaning of certainty. "Do not feed a woman who drinks with her face up, with an uninterrupted stream of water." This means that water with an uninterrupted stream should not be fed to a woman who drinks with her face up. Who should it be given to? It is given to the woman. The word "one's own" is to indicate that there is no fault in others giving it. Why can't one feed with an uninterrupted stream of water, but must give something to drink? Because when a woman drinks with her face up, the eyes and the image of the eyes will meet, and from this, grasping and other reasons similar to before will arise, so one should give water with one's own hands full, not with an uninterrupted stream, that is its meaning. Like giving a burden, food, etc., do not use your own hands...

Regarding the matter of "not giving to the naked." "Naked" refers to those who wear the clothes of the sky. To these individuals, do not give food and other things with your own hands, that is, not from your own hands. Furthermore, do not personally engage in giving. Why? Because it is said, "It becomes like giving a burden." Giving a burden is like giving a burden; do not let it be like giving a burden. What is to be shown here is that, just as the fault of the venerable Ānanda being blamed when he gave a burden, let it not happen here. As it is recorded in the Vinaya, the venerable Ānanda, taking a burden, when he was distributing it for the food of the Sangha, to those naked women who came begging, when he gave the burden, one was young and the other was old, like a crow and a palm tree, he gave two burdens to the young woman's hand and one to the old woman's hand, so that old woman said to the young woman, "Ānanda, you are thinking of me!" How should the Dharma be taught in the presence of women? It is said, "Do not look directly at the face, teach the Dharma to women with eyes free from attachment." A Bhikshu should teach and instruct women. What is special about this teaching? It is answered that, in the presence of women, because the eyes are without attachment and obstruction, one should teach with eyes free from attachment, and not in any other way. It is said, "Do not look directly at the face." Because looking directly is also seeing, one should not teach the Dharma by looking at the face in the presence of women. If one still wants to teach them the Dharma, if there is a wise man there, then one should teach as much as one desires in the manner previously described, or teach the Dharma in five or six words, such as remembering the Buddha, from the form aggregate to the feeling aggregate, and so on. Otherwise, it is like the master of a wrongly combined pacification activity killing life. Similarly, "Sleeping, sitting, walking, etc., one should avoid women." A Bhikshu should be with women
