Because it is established separately, it is said that consciousness is the basis of learning. Therefore, the Acharya briefly said that consciousness is a limb of combination. In the stage of combination, consciousness is a limb, because the power of consciousness will turn the combination into a fault. If so, then mainly taking consciousness as the main thing is the basis of learning that is said. Others, in order to avoid that fault, will make different explanations with phrases such as "not other people" or "those without reproductive ability." Here, just because it is not mentioned, can't it be understood to include those without reproductive ability, etc.? If so, then mentioning it is meaningless, isn't it? No, because not mentioning it includes men, women, hermaphrodites, and those who have entered the womb with six fully developed senses. And mentioning those without reproductive ability refers to those without six fully developed senses. Therefore, the Blessed One said in the Pratimoksha Sutra: "A person or one who has taken human form," using the term "taken human form" to indicate those without reproductive ability, etc. What is the difference of a Bhikshu? It is the mention of "ordinary person," etc. An ordinary person refers to a person who exists naturally, that is, a person who is not mad, mentally disturbed, nor tormented by feelings. Furthermore, this is also a difference, because it has the essence of discipline and learning, so it is a person with learning. Because some people will say, "For a man who can recognize others, I don't need to learn," etc., so it is abandoning learning. What kind of thought? It is the mention of "intention to kill." The intention to kill is the thought of taking life, not the thought of hitting, therefore it is because of that thought. If it changes because of delusion? The answer is: delusion refers to considering something that is not real as real. Different from this, for example, originally intending to kill Devadatta, but not thinking of making offerings, because of the power of delusion, he was killed, just like this, it will not change fundamentally. Just because of this, will learning be lost? The answer is: it is mentioned "hit but not die." It means that because of that reason, dying at that time or at another time. Although saying "die" here already includes the "person" mentioned earlier, but even so, in order to explain it more clearly, it is still mentioned. Does it change even in a dream? It is mentioned "except in a dream."

Furthermore, it is said that, apart from dreaming, it means abandoning dreaming, at other times. Even so, it is said to prevent the situation where someone becomes confused due to dreaming and ends up killing others. Even if one only sees oneself killing others in a dream, there will ultimately be no fault of falling. Since "ordinary person" has already been mentioned, isn't that included? Why mention it specifically? To this, I say: We do not call the body and actions of some people who are deluded by dreams "what the world says." Therefore, it needs to be explained separately. Now, "Will killing with mantras and other methods also lead to falling?" etc., indicates that if one kills by other means, one will fall. Any method that begins with secret mantras refers to mantras and other methods. The word "etc." includes sending things with terrifying colors, etc. Therefore, if those monks also kill others, then they will also fall and receive the root offense, that is the meaning. The word "methods" is used in the plural because there are many methods. The word "also" is to include situations that are not just one's own hand. The second word "also" is because it was previously said that only killing with one's own hand would lead to falling, but it is not only that, encouraging others to kill or rejoicing in praise will also lead to falling. Any act of inciting killing, or rejoicing with bodily movements, etc., if that rejoicing leads to the killing of others, then it will also lead to falling. For example, to those who are killing each other, verbally rejoicing and saying "You are doing well," or physically handing over weapons, or even beating drums, etc. If merely thinking in one's mind that "inciting killing is good," thereby rejoicing, then one will commit a mental offense. If a monk relies on the body of another being to kill, will that also lead to falling? To show that there is no certainty about this, it is said, "To kill sentient beings, one is reborn as an animal," etc. An object with vows is still with vows, this should be understood. And the words "if" mean "suppose."
