It should be known as such. Why is it said "of a single combination"? Because if it is not a multiple combination, but only a single combination, and a quarter of a kārṣāpaṇa is stolen, then it becomes the theft of the fundamental object. If you ask, it is true, but if stealing is done with multiple combinations, it becomes the fault of multiple combinations, not the fundamental object. In order to show that it becomes the fundamental object when a single combination steals the full value, this is said. Why is it said "for oneself"? Because for the thief, it is not necessarily for his own benefit. Because it is possible to steal for the benefit of others or for waste, therefore, if stealing is done for the benefit of others, it becomes a fault, and waste is also plundered, and waste becomes small, this is how it is explained. Therefore, it is said "for oneself". Why is it said "place and time, driven by its value"? In order to distinguish other places and so on. In which place and at what time the theft is committed, and what is the value of that place and time, the fault is determined by that value, not by other times and so on. Here, whether it constitutes the fundamental object is determined by the value of one's own place and time, and if it is not, it becomes small, this should be understood. Why is it said "stealing the relics of the Victorious One with faith is not so"? In order to show that if it is not with faith, but stealing the relics of the Blessed One for the sake of livelihood, it constitutes the fundamental object. Therefore, through words such as "stealing", it is shown that possessing all the limbs constitutes the fundamental object, and not possessing all the limbs constitutes a fault or does not constitute a fault. Among them, the object of the stealing mind, the stealing mind itself is the main cause of it. If asked what is the object of stealing, the answer is: stealing and plundering the property of others, this is the remaining part. Because if it is done that way, it will be separated from that one thing, and if that thing is not there, it will not constitute the fundamental object or the fault of combination. The meaning of the word "only" is "not other", which is the meaning of distinguishing others. Like this, even if all the remaining limbs are possessed, if this one is not there,

It will be shown that there is no fault. If, in the preparatory stage, because one's own thoughts and so on intervene, if there is no stealing mind, then in the actual stage, one's own thoughts and so on will disappear, therefore the actual stage will occur, but if prevented, it will become a fault of the preparatory stage, but that is not the actual stage, it should be understood in this way. The remainder other than the stealing mind is the remaining limb, that is, the remainder is also the limb, this is called a special summary. Not possessing, not having, and not appearing have the same meaning, therefore not possessing those remaining limbs is the same as not having, it will become a minor offense, this is the remainder. It is said that even if some other remaining limbs are missing, but if there is a stealing mind, it will become a minor offense. The word 'ni' is to distinguish it from the previous text. Merely not having a stealing mind is not without fault, however, it will also become other faults, because abiding in its own nature, not a dream, possessing the precepts, etc., in order to follow those, therefore dreams, etc. are mentioned. What begins with dreams is dreams, etc. The word 'etc.' is to include what was just said. Therefore, in dreams, etc., there is no fault in itself, until it does not become a fault. Here, just as without a stealing mind, even if all the remaining limbs are present, it will not become a fault, so too for dreams, etc., if any one of them is missing, even if there are others, it will not become a fault, it should be understood in this way. The word 'ni' is to ascertain that dreams, etc. will never have a fault. Now, starting from the beginning, one must guard the mind, etc., what is to be said is the basis of all the precepts, in what situation will it become a fault. The meaning of 'at the beginning' is, for all the preparations of all past actions, the mind that first enters, that is, the arising of the mind's discrimination with the characteristic of deciding to do this and that. Therefore, for such a mind of enlightenment that has arisen, it should be guarded only with the mind, and because it can be nourished externally, it should be guarded.
