Having asked, if a monastic bhikkhu intends to prophesy the fruit of entering the stream, but instead prophesies the fruit of once-returning; intending to prophesy the fruit of non-returning, but instead prophesies the fruit of an Arhat, what would happen? The reply is: It would result in a grave offense. The term 'to say' refers to speaking in that manner. What does 'to say' mean? It means stating 'I possess.' Here, the context refers to not having attained the first dhyana and so forth, yet claiming 'I have attained' and so on. The term 'to a human' means manifestly to human beings. Here, the context is from the Vinaya: If a bhikkhu, with the perception of a human being, speaks to a human being about superior human qualities that he does not have or possess, and then feels remorse, the Blessed One taught: To a human with the perception of a human, it results in defeat. To a human with doubt, it results in defeat. To a non-human with the perception of a human, and to a non-human with doubt, it results in a remaining offense. This is what was said. The term 'false' means empty of meaning, which is its synonym. The term 'if understood by another' means if that other person understands the meaning of the words, that is, if it becomes understood by another, which is its synonym. Here, the context is from the Vinaya: If a bhikkhu speaks to a householder about superior human qualities that he does not have or possess, and the householder does not understand and asks, 'What does that mean?'

Please listen to what I say, please listen attentively. These include meditations, formless realms, supernormal powers such as divine ears, and qualities with their fruits. The term 'fruit' refers to the four fruits of the path of a renunciate. Qualities include individual correct knowledge, the spheres of overcoming, the spheres of cessation, and so on. It should be understood that this is what transcends human dharma. Human dharma refers to the five obscurations mentioned in this Vinaya Pitaka. Meditations and so on are superior to them because they are attained by abandoning the five obscurations. There are many ways to express this superior human dharma. For example, some show it through the fruit, some show it directly, some show it through its qualities, some show it by describing complete degeneration, some show it by blaming others, some show it by showing a consistent meaning, some discuss it through hints, some show it through a correct future, and some show it by accepting everything without speaking, and so on. Now, listen to just a few examples. First, from the fruit: 'Seeing gods and so on, and watching and so on.' This means that one sees gods and so on. The gods and so on are also watching me. This means that it is through the fruit that one claims to have attained meditation and so on. Because without meditation and so on, it is impossible to see gods and so on, and it is impossible to be venerated. 'Knowing suffering and so on.' This shows the direct way of expressing it. Here, the scripture is: 'Knowing suffering, origin, cessation, and path, and so on.' These words are the nature of realization, not the words of scripture. Its dharma nature is: 'Determining the distinctions of the exhaustion of defilements, and expressing that one possesses self-nature.' This means that one determines the distinctions of the exhaustion of defilements and expresses that one possesses self-nature. For example: 'There, whoever is an Arhat has power over seats and so on. There, I also have power, not others.'

That is what is said. Here, the scripture speaks of many monks being invited to eat at some houses, where variegated and slightly brighter cushions are laid out. Starting from "which monk," up to "a non-arhat monk can sit on variegated and slightly brighter cushions. I was also invited there to eat. Can I also sit on the variegated and slightly brighter cushions there?" If one says so, one will commit a defeat. This is spoken according to the state of complete loss, saying that one completely loses from the merits one has obtained. This is what is said. There are two types of complete loss: loss from what has been obtained and loss from what has not been obtained. Among these, loss from what has not been obtained will be mentioned later in the lesser cases. Therefore, it is specifically distinguished by saying "from what has been obtained." For example, "I have lost the path of a Shramana's practice." This means that I have completely lost from the undefiled path, and so on. Therefore, from the expression of the words of the lama, one will actually destroy (the precepts), and sentient beings will experience the suffering of hell. Therefore, with the words of a lama who proclaims himself as an ordinary person, one will surely destroy (the precepts) due to the ultimate downfall, and sentient beings will experience the suffering of hell. Regarding the ghost in the broom and the reason: clinging to one's own characteristics is a minor downfall. Ordinary ghosts are minor downfalls. Regarding the reason for tranquility and insight, clinging to one's own characteristics, here too, is only a tendency towards one-pointedness, not complete perfection. According to the case of speaking by attributing to others, for example, a practitioner who hears the voice of a deity, saying "there is," this is also speaking by attributing to others. If I do not say "I am," then it is a minor downfall. If I say "I am," then it is only a defeat. If here, no matter what is thought, but because it is attributed to others, it is a minor downfall. From the nature of the words, whether it is oneself or attributing to others
