Since the female organ is by nature unsuitable for sexual activity, if someone thinks, 'If I insert a suitable organ, I will commit a root downfall. If I insert an unsuitable organ, even if I insert it, there will be no downfall,' and with this thought, he inserts an unsuitable organ. The Blessed One said, 'There is no root downfall, but a sanghavasesa is incurred.' Question: Why is the word 'dragging' needed? Answer: It is to show that only movement constitutes intercourse. Here, the Vinaya states: A monk pressed down on a sleeping woman, and afterwards he felt remorse. The Blessed One said, 'If one touches hand with hand, foot with foot, joint with joint, genitals with genitals, and makes effort, a root downfall is incurred. But if one does not make effort, a sanghavasesa is incurred. Just as with turning over in sleep, so it is with being drunk and tormented by feelings.' If one moves away from the joint as if taking out a jewel, and does not make effort from the joint, what would that be like? Because this is to illustrate a possibility, there is no fault. For example, some people open a hole and insert a jewel without touching, and only experience the touch of the joint of the hole without dragging, and when taking it out, they also open the hole and only take it out without touching the hole, that is a possibility. If so, then what is meant by 'immediately upon insertion, a root downfall is incurred'? It means that if the limbs that cause a root downfall are already wet, then that is an insertion accompanied by dragging, so there is no fault. 'In the sanghavasesa of expulsion, if someone makes effort...' that statement can be inferred to be generally applicable, because it shows that in all such cases, contact is experienced. Effort means movement, because without movement, a sanghavasesa is incurred. Then, if 'joint to joint' means acting at the joint of the wound itself, why is effort with the hands etc. needed? This is to show the order of effort at the joints. The teacher Gunaprabha said that the reason why one does not make effort with the hands etc. is only to thoroughly show that one cannot grasp all parts of the body.

It is explained that if one possesses contact without any movement, it is considered to ultimately lead to downfall, and it is determined that things like breaking the waist are also causes of ultimate downfall due to the difference in feelings. This is written in the treatise "If." There are many things to say about this, so let it be. "Experiencing the pleasures of contact through attachment" is synonymous with "possessing the pleasures of contact," where "through attachment" indicates possession. Here, the treatise comes from the Vinaya Matters: A monk meditator named Beautiful, living alone in a monastery, was invited as a guest by a Brahmin, who served him zamba and sent a naked little girl to deliver the food. He saw the form of her limbs, and upon seeing it, he became attached. He pressed her, causing the form of her limbs to break. After the form of her limbs broke, the Blessed One taught: If one experiences the feeling of non-celibacy, it will ultimately lead to defeat. But if one does not experience it, it will become a serious offense, and so on. The reason for saying "pleasures of contact" in the plural is to show that breaking the waist, etc., also equally lead to ultimate downfall. To show that only experiencing the pleasures of contact through attachment leads to ultimate downfall, it is said to be attachment, which is joy, desire, and the desire to possess, and this is not a different meaning. Experiencing refers only to experiencing through the consciousness of touch, so there is a difference. Here, the treatise comes from the Vibhanga: "In the beginning, middle, and end, one fully knows, and having known, one also fully possesses," and "similarly, with a mind devoted to serving," and so on. If this is done, even in the Vibhanga, it is said that for someone who is free from desire and attachment, if they experience contact by being pressed by hail, but because they have abandoned attachment, and possession does not arise, there is no downfall. In the Vinaya Matters, it is also said: A monk was pressed by a woman while asleep, and he felt remorse because of it, and the Blessed One taught: Monk, do you fully know the feeling?
