From. If there is a Bhikshu living alone in a monastery, if that Bhikshu obtains a Dharma garment, he should think: I live alone in this place, wearing the clothes of a Bhikshu should rely on the Sangha, I have obtained this, I should own this garment. From "I should own this garment" to "already owned and blessed," one must generate such a mind and also express it in words. If this is done, it can be said that it has been blessed, so it cannot be given to others who come. If this is not done, that Bhikshu cannot own those clothes. If he owns them, he will commit a misdeed, because he is also equal to those Bhikshus. Here, someone asks, if he is equal to them, then what kind of misdeed will he commit if he steals from those clothes? The answer is, because this is an unreasonable act, it will be wrong. The downfall should be understood as its definition, so there is no fault. If a person who diligently observes the precepts dies, he should be treated with respect, and then divide the clothes of the deceased, etc. With umbrellas, flowers, banners and other items, the deceased who diligently observes the precepts should be sent to the cemetery, and a respectful offering should be made, and the Dharma of the Three Continuums should be proclaimed there. Then return and divide the clothes of the deceased, etc. The order is like this. Here, the scripture is based on the basis of clothing. If he is reborn as a non-human being, holding a stick and standing up, he says, "Before I have made offerings to my body, will you divide it?" The Blessed One said, "The Bhikshus should first make offerings to his body, and then divide the bowl and Dharma garment, so that the sin will not occur." Also, a sick Bhikshu died in the residence, and then was reborn as a non-human being. The Bhikshus carried his body to the cremation ground, made offerings and cremated it. Then they returned to the monastery to divide the clothes, and that person stood up with a stick and said, "Before you have proclaimed the Dharma for me, will you divide the clothes?" The Blessed One said:

It is said that for his sake, the Dharma should be proclaimed and the merit dedicated, and only then should his clothes be worn. It should be explained who has the right to handle the deceased's belongings: Whoever becomes the attendant of the sick, the one who upholds vows has the right to handle the bowl and other six items. When there are many attendants, those six items are shared. The bowl and the three Dharma robes, the mat, and the water strainer, these six items are what the vow-holding attendant of the sick has the right to handle, and this is the definition of "that is his." When the attendants become many, then the bowl and other six items are only jointly owned by them, and other things should not be given away, this is its definition. Here, the scripture, like the example of the Brahmin girl, says that from those belongings, one should also give away from the middle-grade items. If the sick person's attendant is a novice monk, can the attendant receive the sick person's clothes? The answer is: It can be given away. How much can be given? All should be equally distributed. This is what the scripture says. Having gone elsewhere for the sake of the sick, the vow-holder, even if the sick person dies, has the right to handle the six items. If the vow-holders divide those items, they should quickly give them to the attendant. If the attendant has gone elsewhere for the sake of the sick person's affairs, and the sick person dies in his absence, then he also has the right to handle those six belongings. However, if those things are divided, then they should also be collected and given to the attendant. Here, the scripture, like the example of the Brahmin girl, if the monastic attendant has gone out to visit the sick, and the sick person also dies, can the sick person's clothes be given to the attendant? The answer is: Whoever has gone out for the sake of the sick person's affairs, it can be given to him. Whoever has gone out for his own affairs, then it should not be given to him. If the attendant is a fully ordained nun, or a layperson, then he has no right to handle those six items. If the vow-holder has taken out a loan, it should be repaid from his possessions. A fully ordained nun refers to a Bhikshuni, a Shikshamana, and a Shramanerika. If the attendant is a layperson, then he also has no right to handle those six belongings. Here, the scripture, like the example of the Brahmin girl, if the monastic attendant is a layperson, can the sick person's clothes be given to him? The answer is: Nothing should be given.
