It should be understood as being. If one steals a person using a coded agreement, one falls due to the power of the code being established. If one steals using a code, it should be understood that only what the code establishes is stolen. There are many ways to steal a person, such as forcibly taking them against their will, carrying them on the shoulders or back, moving them with a sign of fear, bewildering them with mantras and medicines, freeing them from bonds, and lifting them up without their awareness while they are asleep. To distinguish these, the term "code" is used. There are three ways to steal a person: through instructions, codes, and signs. In these three cases, it should be understood that the theft is committed solely by one's own intention. Among these, instructions refer to gatherings and so on. Signs refer to marks, such as shaving the voice and beard shortly after, and so on. Codes refer to the morning and so on. Although these three, instructions and so on, have different meanings, what they signify, such as the morning and so on, are specific instances, so the term "code" is used to indicate them generally. When you say, "Look at this at this time," or "At that time, come meet me," that is making a code. That is to say, when the code is established, there is no theft. In other cases, it should be understood as theft by following the definition. For example, if one lures with mantras and makes something appear like a treasure, that is theft. If one separates from a group or releases from bonds, making something disappear, that is theft, and so on. If one steals a bound animal, merely releasing the bonds should be understood as theft. If one steals by separating from a group or binding, disappearing from the group is theft. If one steals a bound animal, merely freeing it from the bonds is theft. Here, the text states: If a monk releases a deer bound in a hunter's lost trap, the value of the deer should be calculated. Because the order of calculating the value from the release alone is mentioned, it is evident that the release itself is considered theft. Stealing animals by separating them from bonds or from the group.

Only disappearing from a crowd is considered stealing. If stealing from a single person, it is considered stealing when disappearing from the place of departure, which should be understood with reason. If taking a lama's clothes, etc., and taking steps or reducing steps, disappearing into bushes, etc., it is the actual deed, and blatant robbery is the same. Here, the text is: For example, when Khenpos and teachers are walking on the road, the clothes are in the hands of their disciples, and they have the intention to steal them, and they reduce their steps, each step reduced becomes a minor offense, and the offense becomes serious until they reappear in sight. If they do not reappear in sight, it is said to be robbery, and so on. Therefore, taking steps and reducing steps, disappearing into bushes and forests, etc., becomes the actual deed, because the thief does not have the intention to steal until they appear. Blatant robbery is the same, meaning that it becomes the actual deed from the moment of disappearance. In the Vinaya, it says: A monk took a householder's clothes. After he took the clothes and left, the householder saw him and said to him: Venerable, do not take the clothes. He thought of taking them and bringing them back, and then felt regret. The Blessed One said: There is no defeat, but a heavier offense will be committed. The reason why it is said here that there is no defeat is because there was no disappearance, and there is no other reason. Because it is an action, it is said to be a heavy offense, this meaning should be understood. A boat in shallow water or on a plain, or stealing the flow of a river, is also the same. Disappearing on the banks of rivers, etc., and also in fields, from appearance to reaching the other side, here it is considered stealing. Thus, it means that it is considered stealing when disappearing. Where is it? It is explained: In shallow water, that is, by the water's edge, or on a plain and in the direction of the river's flow, as long as it disappears, it is considered stealing. River
