If someone says they will give you a water filter, there is no fault even if their words are lengthy. Furthermore, when walking along the bank of a river, if you use water that appears clean to the eye, there is no fault even without a water filter. A continuously flowing stream that is not mixed with other streams should be carefully examined at every *gyangdrag* (distance of a shout). Otherwise, consider each suspicion individually. This is the way to travel without a water filter. Flowing is due to the act of flowing. If that river's water is not mixed with other streams, then examine the water at every *gyangdrag* and use it. Here, 'water stream' refers to continuity. Here, the teacher says that if one is following at a *gyangdrag* distance, the term *gyangdrag* is used to examine the collection of water. Otherwise, how would one examine other collections of water, and how would other examinations occur? Because there is no following, one should examine and use each suspicion in the opposite direction of the continuous flow, so said the Blessed One. 'Otherwise' means that in the opposite directions of the flowing river stream, it is permissible to examine each suspicion and use the water. This method is taught for traveling without a water filter. Bathing in water containing living beings is prohibited with woolen clothes and sunshades. Where there are more living beings than water, one should not bathe even with a single layer of cloth. Bathing in water containing living beings is prohibited with clothes covered in wool and sunshades, because it is possible for living beings to accumulate in these two. As it is said, one should not bathe with patched clothes or those covered in wool. If one does, it will be a serious transgression, it is said, which is also summarized, because prohibiting sunshades also includes patched clothes, and mentioning 'with wool' also includes those covered in wool. Where there are more living beings than water, one should not bathe even with a single layer of cloth. Here, the scripture states: 'Where the number of living beings is large and the amount of water is small, one should not bathe. Where the amount of water is large and the number of living beings is small, one should bathe.' It is said. Examining the water should be done with a handful, it is said, which should be seen as representing fishing nets and the like. Well

Water mixed with rice etc. should be filtered and not used as food. If the water at a householder's place is clean, it can be drunk in the afternoon without hesitation. Water from wells etc. mixed with rice, vegetables etc. should be filtered and taken. In the Vinaya, it says: Monks were taking water from a well, and remnants of rice and rotten pieces fell into their water strainer. The Blessed One said: Food cannot perform the function of food, it should be discarded and filtered. Do not regret this. It can also be drunk at night, and the water pot should be filled. Similarly, when a monk drinks soup from his bowl at the appointed time, and drinks water from his bowl at the wrong time, oil rises from the bowl. The Blessed One said: You can drink the oil on top. Do not regret this. When the water at a householder's place is inspected and found to be clean, then it can be drunk at night as well. Here, the text is from the Matters section. Monks are walking on the road, and there is no water. If patrons give water from a householder's place, the monks will not drink it at the wrong time because of regret. The Blessed One said: If there is no other source, it should be inspected and drunk, and also put into water pots and water bottles. The same applies to water in wooden buckets, water jugs and water tanks. Monks, wooden buckets and water jugs are clean sources, and after inspection, it can be drunk whether it is the appointed time or not, and do not regret this. This is related to unseasonable food, but since it is a chapter on water, it is explained here. With three sticks, weave a triangular water strainer, which can filter water well. If the water strainer is too thin, use heavy, dry, clean powder

It should be placed. In order to make the water filter drip, it should be repeatedly tapped with bamboo strips. To protect sentient beings, a container with iron rings attached should be placed underneath. If the water does not drip because heavy flour has been added to the water filter, then in order to make the water drip, it should be repeatedly tapped with bamboo strips. To protect the sentient beings under the triangular water filter, a container with iron rings attached should be placed. Then, in the "Minor Matters," it says: There are two kinds of support containers for water filters, namely those made of copper and those made of earth. For those made of copper, holes should be drilled and the holes should be fixed with iron rings. For those made of earth, holes should be drilled and fixed with thread, isn't that what it says? Now, why is it shown in another way? There is no fault in this, because it is only to indicate that as long as the purpose of not destroying sentient beings can be achieved, that is enough, and this is an approximate expression. If, according to the rules, there is a well in a certain place, then how should the filtered water be drawn? It is said: In order to avoid harming the sentient beings in it, use a container that allows the water containing sentient beings to be released, with two ropes tied to the mouth and bottom, and with compassion, pour the water into the well. Use a container that allows the water containing sentient beings to be released to draw the water. How should it be done? In order to prevent harm to sentient beings, use a water filter, or tie a rope to a container that allows sentient beings to be released, and put it into the well, put it in when it is full, and take it out again when it is empty, that is how it should be done, this is a brief statement. The noble ones do not spit saliva on the ground in front of the world, but turn it back to the mouth and do not drink water. If leaves and the like cannot be found, and one goes to a deserted place because of thirst, there is no fault in drinking water. Those who follow the Dharma of the noble ones should not turn saliva back to the mouth and drink water. If leaves and the like cannot be found, and one suffers from thirst, one can drink water in a deserted place. In the "Miscellaneous Matters," it says: When a monk drinks water from a bird-beak pot, if he finds a bee caught by three straws, he cannot drink it. The Blessed One taught: In any place where others see it and do not lose faith
