Like the shape of a crescent moon fruit, or like the edge of a razor, when shaving, do not apply resin, it is for purification, not for beauty. Those who live in monasteries should not let their hair grow longer than two fingers. Those who live on the edge of villages and are unruly, even two fingers' length is not allowed. After the hair is shaved, one should bathe for purification. If those who diligently keep vows have the necessary conditions, they are allowed to wash their five limbs. Near the common hall of the Sangha, razors and other tools should be placed in containers. If one is skilled in haircutting and other tasks, there is no prohibition in doing it in a secluded place. After using a toothbrush and washing the mouth, one should preach the sacred Dharma, and the mealtime should also be at this time, other times are not appropriate. Among them, the longest of the three lengths is twelve fingers, it should be known. Eight fingers is short, located in the middle, and is called medium length. After discarding the toothbrush, also scrape the tongue coating, diligently scrape the tongue. There are four types of tongue scrapers: copper, brass, and iron. Those who live on the edge of the village should prepare these utensils, and if not, they can use a polished tree branch to scrape. If there are no tree branches, then use heavy water to clean the dirt from the mouth and tongue, so that no one can see it. In the past, a poisonous snake died and was reborn as the son of a Brahmin. The smell of that renunciate's tongue caused many pure actions to become faults. Initially, bees died because of the toothbrush, therefore, the beehive also died, and everything that touched it also died. His smell spread everywhere, and beings gradually died. Therefore, the Bhagavan compassionately forbade (the use of scented toothbrushes). The toothbrush of those who keep vows should be washed and completely discarded. If there is no clean water, it should also be polished and completely discarded. The acts of urinating, speaking, and preparing toothbrushes, monks should do in a sheltered place. Monks are allowed to wear single-layered shoes. Do not arbitrarily cut multi-layered shoes. Noisy and precious (shoes) are not allowed to be cut. If those who break the precepts use the Sangha's belongings, there is no fault. In windy places
