That is of an offense. Being struck by a stick, one will surely fall. From the gate of terrifying, falling, and blazing, One becomes distracted by the fire of hell. An evil-minded person called a vagrant, Ignorant and unskilled in Sutras and the like, Regarding the unclear words of the Vinaya, Unskilled in the meaning of those words. From the words of children, the foolish, and so on, Even if one refutes with just one word, It becomes a means of entering the fire of hell, An offense causes a Bhikshu to fall. Therefore, grasping those words, One should inquire of the wise. Acting according to the words of the wise, Because the blind do not possess a standard of measurement. Or it is merely false, Even with the words of children and the like, Even if one is not wise, one should admonish, If one speaks the truth, there is no fault. A Bhikshu who is mutually discordant, Seeking opportunities to provoke and quarrel, Gathering like crows and vultures, That too is where an offense truly exists. When meditating in dwellings and the like, Entering without making a sound signal, Because the main meaning of the sound is not heard, Hearing the sound wrongly, one commits a fault. Like that, in mansions, stairs, and doors, When entering the path, for those who are disciplined, The offense is as previously explained, Acting for the sake of peace, there is no fault. The Dharma of supplication and other activities, The discussion of establishing the Dharma. When conducting it, do not speak to others, Those who guard their vows should not abandon it. Has it become an obstacle to the activity? Thinking thus, one should admonish well. A Bhikshu who does not act like that, Quickly falls into the ocean of offenses. An offense is committed against the disrespectful, Both the Sangha and the individual (व्यक्ति,vyakti, person). To the Sangha, it is said to be an offense, To the individual, it is said to be a misdeed. In the Sangha, regarding the words of the disciplinarian, Even if one vehemently refutes, It is an offense, but not against the Sangha of the Guru, Nor against other elders and so on. Regarding meaningless words, Distinguishing with the "ཤད་" of reason, For the speaker who refutes, Here it is said there is no offense. Grains or brewed alcohol, Even the tip of a Kusha grass should not be touched. If one drinks or gives these, Both are careless in a large room.

The juice of rice, etc., is completely transformed, clearly shown in the brewing vessel, produced from honey, grapes, etc. When, due to mold and decay, the intoxicating power is exhausted, because the reason for alcohol is abandoned, even if consumed at that time, there is no fault. Suluka and Shoga water, sour Sugga extracted, for the purpose of drinking with water, even at inappropriate times, there is no prohibition. Grain wine that has turned sour is commonly called Suluka. Modulated wine that has turned sour is called Sugga. Because Kotrava and others are prohibited, it is said that grain wine is modulated wine. When moldy and decayed, in order to transform the nature of the wine, it is said to be intoxicating. The color of the wine, as well as the smell, taste, and sensation, etc., if the intoxicating power is exhausted, then it is considered that the substance of the wine does not exist, and there is no basis for offense. Thus, color, etc., drinking two-thirds or one part, the intoxicating power is exhausted, two-thirds the same or one part alone, without intoxicating power, there are no offenses. Root, trunk, flower, fruit, leaves are also intoxicants, as well as mash and rice mixed wine, if consumed, it will become a serious violation. A guardian of vows, without informing companions, abiding in vows, entering a village at an inappropriate time, for such a situation there is no fault, otherwise, punishment will be received. When the sun is at its zenith, before the later dawn has risen, it is considered "inappropriate time," the wise should distinguish between time and inappropriate time. A Bhikshu entering at an inappropriate time, and thinking that inappropriate time is time, or being doubtful, will also be destroyed. Thinking that inappropriate time is time, or hesitating, will commit an offense. Householders in their homes, because they invite Bhikshus as guests, at no time should they go to other people's homes. For the comfort of the noble Sangha, speaking truthfully about the amount of offering, if the householder also allows, then going there is also without fault. If someone has closed the city gate of the king, or the nearby area, if the last dawn has not yet risen and has passed, abiding there is also a sin. The city, the palace of the king, and the closing of the gates of the third consort's residence, and being close to these places, is called "nearby." A Bhikshu before dawn has arrived, with the thought of not being awake, if he crosses the closed city gate, he will
