I will compose the Thirty Verses, and after explaining them together with the precepts, then the ninety Defeat offenses alone will be clearly elucidated. In Rajagriha, when the Bhagavan was there, many householders who wanted to see the Bhagavan asked the Voice-Holder (Sgra-gcan-'dzin): Where is the Bhagavan? Even though the Bhagavan was in another place, he pointed to another place. Therefore, it is said in the Sutra: The Teacher spoke these two verses: Whoever transgresses one Dharma, that is, a sentient being who speaks falsehood, has abandoned the next world, and in this way, there is no evil that cannot be done. It is better to eat iron balls burning with flames than for an undisciplined person to improperly enjoy the offerings of the country. In order to practice the basis of the precepts, it is necessary to prohibit falsehood. Starting from the lineage of teachers who speak, for those who speak falsehood, the Bhikshu who knowingly speaks falsehood is said to be a Defeat offense. There are nine kinds of falsehood, spoken between two kinds. For those who guard their vows, there are five kinds of severance, such as the Defeat. There are nine kinds of speech about morality, views, conduct, and livelihood. There are three kinds of seeing, etc. With these, it is said that there are eight kinds of falsehood. Morality, views, conduct, livelihood, with seeing, hearing, and doubt, speaking falsehood to those who guard their vows, any one of them has seven kinds of speech. Saying will say, saying thus, having said these three kinds of speech, seeing, etc., three kinds, speaking falsehood has six kinds. Like this, abandoning each one, it should be understood here with words. For thoroughly understanding falsehood, there are two kinds of understanding after speaking. Again, with the five Defeats, etc., it should be known that it will become a Defeat. Whatever is said in the place of Defeat, the boundary of what was said before is the Defeat itself, and one should never desire another. Becoming a Sangha remnant, either slightly or fundamentally slandering. Regarding Dharma, determining it as non-Dharma, etc. If someone speaks in the middle of the Sangha, then for him, it will become a gross falsehood. In the Dharma activities at the time of Uposatha, if one says "Are you pure?", silence is concealing the offense, and it is said to be a defiled offense. Like that, whatever is shown, are the words of falsehood.

What are the four types? Other than that, it is pointed out to be a false speech that leads to downfall. Saying 'unseen' as 'seen' etc., and vice versa. If one speaks knowingly, and understands the meaning, it is considered a downfall. Similarly, for animals, such as broken horns etc., if spoken from the aspect of defects, and if it causes discouragement and lack of effort, what need is there to mention knowledgeable people? Therefore, for all sentient beings, the Bhagavan forbade it for their benefit. Speaking of faults to people, for monks, it is a downfall. With the intention of speaking faults, if a monk asks a Brahmin, "Are you a renunciate?" If he asks about the Brahmin's caste, he will commit a misdeed and a downfall. With the same intention, it is the same for the Kshatriya caste, the speaker only commits a misdeed. Similarly, speaking to the Vaishya and Shudra castes, the diligent practitioner will commit a downfall. Weavers, idol makers, carpenters, tailors, bamboo workers, if all these castes are spoken about, it is said to be a downfall. Potters, blacksmiths, slaves, leather workers, bird catchers, fishermen, hunters, violent people etc., speaking of them will lead to decline. You are a Brahmin, therefore, your caste's work is cleanliness etc., what can a monk teach you? Saying this is also a misdeed. You are a Kshatriya, your work is weapons etc., spears and arrows etc., learn them, saying this, it is a misdeed to whomever it is said. Similarly, it is the same for the professions of the Vaishya and Shudra castes. To weavers, bamboo workers etc., it is said to be a downfall of a downfall. Sacrificers and Chandalas etc., you say, do your own work, saying this, to those who are not intelligent, it is a misdeed as before. Hunchbacks, blind people, amputees, hunchbacks, dwarfs, deaf and dumb, saying this will also receive the burning of the fire of downfall. You are a leper, vomiting blood, weak, scabies, diarrhea etc., speaking these evil words, for the diligent practitioner, it is considered a downfall. You are impure, destroyed by downfall, accompanied by malice and regret, you are burned by anger, saying this etc. is also the same fault. A monk, with the intention of speaking faults, insults with donkeys etc., with garbage etc.
