Explaining the giving of fearlessness. The meaning of abandoning wealth is that if one spouse abandons it, the other will feel constrained and apprehensive; if they both abandon it, that is, if both abandon it, they will not feel constrained and apprehensive towards each other. If both urge others to believe in giving, even if the one being urged agrees, it is a downfall. Obtaining it once means once. If both husband and wife each take out wealth, accumulate it together, and set it aside as the cost of clothing for a monk, even if it is obtained from that, it is a downfall. These two branch sutras, plus all the subsequent branches of the meaning of abandoning wealth, if complete, will be a downfall. The other explanations and all the branches are the same as the subsequent explanation of the meaning of abandoning wealth. The meaning of abandoning separately. The meaning of abandoning separately comes from the Vinaya-vibhanga. Explaining the meaning of entrusting, that is, without examination. If a king, minister, or Brahmin entrusts unexamined gold and silver as the cost of clothing to a monk. Rejection: For the person carrying the clothes, the monk cannot accept the unexamined cost of the clothes; if clothes are given, they can be accepted, but the unexamined cost cannot be accepted. Previous inquiry: If the person carrying the cost says, if the unexamined cost of the clothes cannot be accepted, then can there be a servant or someone to handle affairs? The monk indicates that this is the person to handle affairs. Then, after instructing the person to handle affairs, the person carrying the cost of the clothes says to the person handling affairs who was instructed by the monk, use this unexamined cost of the clothes to buy a piece of clothing and give it to that monk. Therefore, because the messenger said, the person carrying the cost of the clothes came to the monk again and said that the person handling affairs you instructed has placed the cost of the clothes, use these costs to buy clothes and offer them to you, please enjoy these clothes. Having spoken previously, urging: If the monk says more than six times to the person handling affairs, such as "clothes are very urgently needed," and possesses the branches mentioned by name, then he will commit a downfall of abandonment. For those who cannot understand, there is no urging. If the monk

Even if one says, "Busy with cloth," if he is deaf, or has fallen asleep, or is distracted and does not hear, then the urging is ineffective, and therefore it is not counted as urging six times. If it is not accomplished, it can also be twice. To the person who is accomplishing the matter, if the bhikshu feels and hears, "Busy with what?" and urges once, if he does not give, between the two times he hears and feels, "I am busy with cloth," and urges. It can also be three times. As the *Vinaya-uttara* says, to the person who is accomplishing the matter, even if he urges twice, if he does not give the cloth, between the three times he hears and feels, "I am busy with cloth," and urges. Beyond three times, he should sit silently. As all the *Vinaya-uttara* say, even if he urges verbally three times, if he does not give the cloth, the fourth time he should go to him without saying anything. If he asks, "What have you come for?" he should say, "For that." Even if he urges silently four times, if he does not give the cloth, he should go silently five or six times. If he urges more than six times and obtains it, it is to be abandoned. If it is not accomplished, he should inform the donor. As the *Vinaya-uttara* says, he should urge with words, "Busy with cloth," three times, and urge silently three times, for a total of six times, and if he does not give the cloth, then that bhikshu should go to the king or minister who initially entrusted the price of the cloth and ask, "The price of the cloth that you entrusted, has he not received it? You should know." If he sends a messenger or does not inform himself, he commits a *duskrta*. If the person carrying the price of the cloth indicates without asking, "What is the matter you are accomplishing?" he also commits a *duskrta*. To the person carrying the price, if he does not prevent him from accepting the price of the cloth without examination, he also commits a *duskrta*. If he sends it in this way and offers it, if he says, "Send it," and promises, "I will definitely try to hold his mind," he may accept it. As the *Vinaya-uttara* says, after urging six times, if he does not give the cloth, to the person to whom the king or minister initially entrusted the wealth, after the bhikshu informs him again, if the person accomplishing the matter comes to offer, saying, "Please accept the cloth," he should say, "I have already informed the owner of the wealth again," and should not accept it; if he accepts it, he will commit a *naisargika-patayantika*. Even if he says, "I have already informed the owner of the wealth, so I will not accept it," in accomplishing the matter, he should hold the mind of the owner of the wealth, so that there is no displeasure, and he should be trusted and allowed.
