Commentary on the Vinaya Sutra, by Yönten Ö. Commentary on the Vinaya Sutra By Yönten Ö In Sanskrit: Vinaya Sutra Vritti. In Tibetan: Commentary on the Vinaya Sutra. Homage to the All-Knowing One. It is the manner of belonging to the definitive vehicle, belonging refers to all the lower sutras. Definitive means undoubtedly accomplishing the unsurpassed vehicle. Manner refers to three for the body and four for speech, all the Vinaya texts are contained within these seven modes of conduct. All the Sangha gathers and, acting in this manner, prostrates and joins palms. Sitting upright before the elders. The former ritual is to simultaneously obtain ordination and full Bhikshu ordination through three requests and four acts of supplication. "All the Sangha" does not refer to the Sangha of the ten directions, but to the gathering of all those residing within a single boundary. There are two types of boundaries: one is demarcated by the Sangha's requests and supplications, and the other is a natural boundary, such as water or a fence. Acting in this manner means acting in the manner of Shakyamuni Buddha, shaving hair and beard, wearing robes and carrying a begging bowl, etc. Prostration means respectfully touching the ground with the five limbs out of body, speech, and mind. Doing so is to prevent obstacles from arising. Joining palms does not mean making a fist or holding something, but joining the palms. Sitting upright does not mean sitting cross-legged, standing, or bending the legs, but sitting with the legs aligned and the buttocks not touching the ground. Sitting before the elders means approaching and sitting before monks who are senior in vows, virtuous, and endowed with qualities. The three requests refer to reciting three times, "Please, Sangha, have great compassion and allow me to go forth." This is the request made by the one who is about to ordain. The four acts of supplication refer to, "If this son of good family violates the Sangha's rules of ordination, please be aware." This is the request made by a faithful Bhikshu before the three requests, and there are actually only four. Vishuddha (梵文天城体: विशुद्ध,梵文罗马拟音:viśuddha,汉语字面意思:Pure) says that from these four requests, there are three and seven ways of explaining the transmission of vows. One.
