Do not do it. If one does something like playing without the intention to kill and dies, it is a misdeed. No karma will arise in lifetimes. If one is struck by a weapon or something that kills people, and does not die immediately, but one dies before and the person who was struck by the weapon dies later in retaliation, there is no defeat, only a coarse offense. Asking about the defeat of the one who kills belongs here. The defeat of the father who kills a person, that is, the sutra that appears in the section called "Inquiries of the Vinaya." A coarse offense is saying, "I will become like this after death," which is disbelief, but it is established as such. If a seriously ill patient is asked to get up for medical treatment, and the patient says, "If I get up, I will die," then whether they die or not after getting up, it is a coarse offense. A sick monk is seriously ill and has an attendant. If a monk helps him up for medical treatment, and the patient says, "If you help me up, I will surely be eaten by a demon and die," it is not allowed. If the patient dies after being helped up, and the attendant doubts whether they have committed a defeat. They pray to the Buddha, and the Buddha says it is not a defeat, but a coarse offense. If one knows they will die, not attending to the patient is also a coarse offense. A sick monk, whoever attends to them, even if they are treated in that way and do not recover, one thinks that even if they die, it is over. Abandoning them without attending to them, whether they die or not, is a coarse offense. Giving indigestible food is also a coarse offense. If a sick person has a wind disease, giving food that aggravates the wind disease, and knowing that a person with a fever should not eat hot food, giving it without the intention to kill is also a coarse offense. If an attendant asks a sick monk, "What kind of porridge is good to eat?" and the patient says, "If you add salt to sour porridge and drink it, it will be beneficial, please give it to me," because that disease is a wind disease, and sour and salty things are not suitable, and they die after being given it, therefore it is prescribed. Piercing a boil before it is ripe is also a coarse offense. If a boil is like a pimple, and it has grown underneath and is pierced before it is ripe, it is a coarse offense. A monk has a pimple, and it is not ripe. Another monk says to pierce it, and the one who is not ripe says not to pierce it, and it is not allowed like that. If they die after being pierced, therefore it is prescribed, and piercing it even though they say not to pierce it, and piercing one's own boil before it is ripe is also a coarse offense. Pushing into a deep abyss and confining behind a door.

And also things like being harmed by the wind. Without the intention to kill, putting someone in a bag, squeezing them in a doorway, etc., causing affliction for the sake of play, is the same as deliberately throwing them into a pit, which is a grave offense. Between two monasteries, there lived a fierce layperson who always offered fruit to the monks of one monastery, saying, 'It's the same as offering to the Sangha.' He also offered it to the Sangha of the other monastery. Then he went again to offer fruit to the monks he had offered to before. Those monks said, 'You offer fruit separately like this.' Squeezing in the doorway, therefore, it was established as a grave offense. Throwing off a cliff and obstructing, etc., striving for death is also an offense. Jumping off a cliff for one's own death, jumping off a rock, using a knife, swimming in water, and not dying is also a grave offense. Also saying to others, 'It's okay to die like that.' Not dying is a grave offense, dying is a defeat. Because of illness, do not casually give a knife or a cane. A Bhikshu should not place implements of death such as a knife or a cane near a sick person. Even without the intention to kill, placing it there is a misdeed. It should be done knowingly. The patient's medicine and food, etc., whether it is cooked or not, whether spices have been added or not, whether it tastes good or not, etc., should be told in advance knowingly. Doing one's own and the Sangha's work is okay, but whether it will become a sin or not, it should be done after observing knowingly. Not doing so is a misdeed. Even striking with the palm for the sake of mantras is an offense. When chanting mantras for a patient, etc., if it is necessary to strike with the palm, it should be done knowing that it will not worsen the condition. If it is not done knowingly, it is a misdeed. For fullness Striking to expel is also an offense. Even if it is necessary to strike the back because of food fullness, it should be done moderately knowing that it will not worsen the condition. Without the intention to kill, doing it unknowingly, and dying is also a misdeed. If it is necessary to throw something, it should be carefully examined in the same way. If it is necessary to throw wood and stones, etc., it should be observed whether there are sentient beings, etc. Not observing is a misdeed. Do not carry heavy loads when you have little strength. Like one's own belongings, for heavy loads that are too heavy to bear, do not entrust them when you have little strength, do not walk hunched over. Do not bend your head down, do not walk with your hands, nine is the head.
