Do what you can, it is not hiring. Even if an elderly monk cannot do it, or entrusts it to another friend, like the back of a scripture, for the alms bowl that should be used as the wisdom of merit and a staff, do not charge a fee. Do not deceive with dialects. Two bhikkhunis speak different languages. When walking back and forth, the robes of the one who walked earlier fell, and the later bhikkhuni called out in her own language, but because the languages were different, she picked it up and took it away. The owner of the robes said it was stolen. Because the languages were different, the rule was made that there was no fault. If you pick up something that has fallen, do not hold it for a long time. Like the back of a scripture, if you pick up something that has fallen, like robes, and take it away, do not leave it for a long time, but give it to the owner. If you leave it for a long time, you have committed a fault. Entrust it to the temple manager. If you find lost property, entrust it to the temple manager and ask who it belongs to. If you recognize a monastic, show it to the Sangha. If you know that the found property belongs to a monk, show it to the Sangha of the temple manager, and if you find the owner, return it. If you cannot find the owner, hang it on a rope. If the found property cannot be traced to the owner and it is unknown who it belongs to, weave a rope in the temple and hang it on it. Do not take medicine without being told by the patient. A bhikkhuni has a sick benefactor, and without being told by the patient, the nurse and the benefactor

Do not take without permission. Even if seen, it is okay to steal and take away. Even if recognized after stealing and taking away, it is okay. If he says, "Do not send it without permission, leave it," or takes it back, it is a transgression. If one preaches the Dharma for this reason and then demands it back, saying, "My belongings were taken by a thief, and if they are in his hands, it will become the sin of stealing, and if they are returned, there will be great merit," then demand it back. Even half the value is acceptable. Like treating the back of a scripture, if it is not given, even if it is half the value of what is needed, it should be redeemed. A begging bowl and Dharma robes should be taken back even if it costs the full value. If a thief takes away things like a begging bowl and Dharma robes, even if one preaches the Dharma, if they are not returned, they should be redeemed even if it costs the full value. It is necessary to redeem them for the full value because one needs them and no transgression will occur. Fearing that it will become unsightly, saying, "It has been discarded," do not take it if many people have not seen it. If a thief takes away the remnants of pigs and sugarcane, and the group of six monks takes them away, or if the owner of the property seizes them and the local people are unhappy, therefore rules are established, even if such remnants are taken, others should see and know that they were not stolen, but taken after being known through legal means. Taking them without many people seeing them will result in a transgression. The belongings of a corpse offered by non-humans are also not without an owner. If a person is covered in lice and dies, and is reborn as the owner of the lice, and the group of six monks takes the lice from the corpse and takes them away, that ghost will follow behind them. The group of six monks went to Rājagṛha (རྒྱལ་པོའི་ཁབ།), and the ghost could not enter the gate, so it called out to them. The Buddha told Ānanda (ཨ་ནན།) to return the lice to it, and then sent him to follow behind the ghost to return them, therefore rules were established. Do not take the belongings of a corpse where a ghost resides. If taken, it is a transgression. One must follow behind the very fierce ghost. Because the ghost cannot take the lice, he was carefully sent to return them, and if he goes in front of the ghost, he will be mocked, so he follows behind and goes. It is also okay to lie face down and cover from the feet upwards. If one goes to the place where that ghost resides, the ghost will spit, caress with its hands, because the feet are thin. Lie face down and cover from the feet upwards with lice, if this is not done, it is a transgression. Do not take without permission. If there are no wounds on the corpse or if it has not been touched, because there is a corpse-raising ghost, do not take the items.
