Ra. Do not open the door without authorization or without continuous discernment. If there are many robbers in the area and homes are frequently robbed, then, when someone comes at night saying "Open the door," do not open the door without investigating. Climb up and look, or make them speak using the name "Are you not sick with the plague?" This is the method. If someone says "Open the door" in the voice of a monk at night, climb onto the roof of the house and say, "Who are you? Where do you come from?" If they say, "I am a monk," say, "You have the plague." This is because in the past, a thief impersonated a monk and had the door opened, so this rule was established. From then on, a law was made for those below monks. If a thief impersonates a monk and has the door opened, they should say, "I have the plague." This is the word of the oral instruction. One should clearly know the place of residence, name, father, mother, and so on. If a householder comes calling "Open the door," in order to know whether they are a thief or not, ask for evidence of their place, name, parents, and so on. If it matches, open the door. If it is not clear and you are afraid, do not open the door. As before, ask for obvious evidence, and if the evidence does not match and you are afraid, do not open the door. Monastics can keep a dog, and there is no fault in keeping a dog because they are afraid of monastics. Therefore, after getting up in the morning, look between the temple and the stupa. A monk living in a monastery, after getting up in the morning, should look beside the temples to see if there is dog urine or feces. If there is excrement, throw it away. As before, after looking, if there is excrement or urine, throw it away. If there is urine, wipe it away; if you wipe it with your fingernails, it will be flat. If a dog urinates, wipe it with earth to make it flat. Make a mandala in those places. As before, for places where a dog has urinated or defecated, make a mandala with cow dung. Give away the leftovers from the begging bowl. Give the leftovers from a monk's meal to the dog. Outside the boundary of the stupa and the temple. As before, giving food to a dog should be done outside the boundary of the temple. Give a demonstration of whatever conduct is desired. When a student receives something like recitation from the Khenpo, and then offers it back and receives it, it is acceptable to practice any of the four conducts. Ask "Is the body well?" and prostrate first, because it is received by a new person, therefore practice conduct. As before, offer recitation to the Khenpo.

The student who receives the teachings, after prostrating and inquiring about well-being, serves with respect and says, "Please (teach)." This is the ritual for receiving teachings. When learning teachings, sit and learn in a place where the Khenpo cannot hear. Within sight. When learning teachings, make sure the Khenpo can see within sight without hurting the ears.
