That place is also without fault. Furthermore, for the property of the Sangha, whether for the sake of the Sangha or for an individual Bhikshu, the property should be placed there. In the vicinity of the Sangha's monastery, if there is ample land for building the monastery, even if a Bhikshu says he will build the monastery for the sake of the Sangha, it is permissible. If someone asks, "May I reside here?", it should be granted. If a patron exists, he should grant it. As before, if there is a patron who donates the land, one should ask the patron before donating. If there is no patron, the Sangha should donate. Inside or outside the city, places for rest should be inspected. At the edge of villages, at crossroads, and at the edge of monasteries, it is permissible for Bhikshus to build shelters for the benefit of most people who come and go. To avoid attachment to one's own well, a concealing wall should be built. If there is a well at the edge of the monastery, to prevent both Bhikshus and laypeople from developing attachment to the well water, the well should be built with bricks so that Bhikshus and laypeople do not see each other when drawing water. When women draw water, they should fill their hands and take it, without a continuous stream of water. When women draw water, they should not pour it directly with a bottle, but fill their hands and let them drink. Initially, a good Bhikshu poured water directly into a woman's mouth, causing the woman to die from her stomach being filled with water, hence the rule was established. When wealth is obtained during the summer, if one monastery has many fields and villages, whichever Bhikshu arrives is determined by the share of the monastery's fields, and all Sanghas enter the summer retreat. If a Bhikshu comes from elsewhere and arrives within forty-five days, he also has the right to a share of the summer retreat. Unused wealth should not be used for other purposes. If there is a Bhikshu in the monastery who does not want to allocate shares of items such as wine, that is best, and twelve people cannot force him. Initially, food should be given to those who have not obtained wealth. If a Bhikshu comes from elsewhere and does not arrive within forty-five days during the retreat, the offerings and food for the retreat should not be given, nor should he be allowed to obtain other things. As before, a Bhikshu who comes from elsewhere and enters the retreat, forty-five days

If it hasn't arrived, the monk who comes saying "it's an offering" will not be offended. It is blameless if, for that reason, he does not go, but in another monastery, he waits for the distribution of food and eats it. When going to a monastery, if he thinks, "I am going because I will eat lay food," it is a transgression. Going for work, and borrowing temporarily to go, is blameless. In times of famine, even if one has not accepted oneself, it is acceptable. When a famine occurs, if one is not accepting food for oneself, but is making offerings for others, it is blameless to go to the offerings without accepting oneself. It is also acceptable for a monk to take more than the allotted amount. If invited to a feast during a famine, because one may not find food in the future, if one always eats a certain offering, then at that time, even if one eats four or five portions, or whatever one can, it is blameless. Do not neglect the monastery. Male monks should repair dilapidated monasteries. To repair them, one should please the patrons. As before, to repair the monastery, one should preach the Dharma to faithful patrons to raise funds. If it is not successful, the Sangha should do what they can. If one does not obtain funds by soliciting from patrons, one should take from the Sangha's property to repair it. It is also acceptable to repair it oneself. When repairing a monastery, if there are no servants or entertainers, the monks themselves should repair it. By accepting offerings, one should plaster the monastery. If one does not accept large or small offerings that come in accordance with the rules, such as donations, it is blameless not to repair it; therefore, those who have accepted a portion of the offerings should repair the monastery if it is dilapidated. Offerings of faith do not belong to the monastery. It is not because of the monastery, but because a faithful patron gave me wealth and goods; if some monks say, "You have also accepted offerings, so preach the Dharma," if that person has not accepted offerings within the Sangha, it is blameless not to repair it. Close the door and leave the monastery. Monks come and go, locking the doors of the guest rooms and sealing them before leaving. If the guest room itself does not have a lock, lock the outer door. Leave a guardian. If one wants to invite all the monks to an offering, one should leave one monk as a guardian. If not, give food. The food for the guarding monk is provided by the Sangha. If there is no source of food in the monastery, first take a child to beg for food, and then distribute it.
