When I say the word "I," do not speak. Be cautious about what is asked in the three times of past, present, and future; do not answer or instruct, such as not instructing in Dharma, colors, or meditation. For these two situations, the punishment is the same: do not let them do tasks such as washing feet or massaging the body. The term "Dharma" refers to any of the one hundred and one tasks; whatever they do, do not let them do it, but drive them away. The term "not providing food" means that the owner does not provide food or clothing, and even if students offer it, it is not accepted. The punishment is the same for these two situations. Cutting off assistance in virtuous deeds and prohibiting residence. The term "cutting off assistance in virtuous deeds" means that for students building stupas, reading texts, and other virtuous activities, they should be completely prohibited and not allowed to do them. The term "prohibiting residence" means do not reside here, leave this place, drive them away. These five punishments are applied sequentially; if one does not change, then one punishment is applied. The reasons are disbelief, laziness, difficulty in speaking, disrespect, and having bad friends. The term "the reasons are" refers to the reasons for sequentially applying the five punishments, which are these five situations mentioned by name. The term "disbelief" means having no faith in the Three Jewels from within. The term "laziness" means not engaging in virtuous deeds but engaging in non-virtuous deeds, eating, sleeping, and wandering outside. The term "difficulty in speaking" means repeatedly refusing and denying virtuous deeds and assigned tasks, and speaking curses and harsh words. The term "disrespect" means having no respect for the Three Jewels, the Khenpo, and the Lama, being arrogant, and thinking that it is enough to keep the coarse precepts and that there is no need to keep the subtle precepts, being disrespectful. The term "having bad friends" means associating with those who kill, musicians, wine sellers, thieves, and prostitutes. These five situations are punished sequentially with the five punishments. If other monks help those who are being punished, they commit a gross offense. For disciples who have received any of the five punishments, if another Bhikshu helps the punished person, the helper commits a gross offense of breaking the Sangha. If they still show disrespect, a wise Bhikshu should be consulted in order to transform them. For those who have received the five punishments, their negative karma will increase, and they cannot ask for forgiveness; they should leave.

If it hasn't passed and is still in the intermediate state, a Bhikshu who is virtuous and knowledgeable in Dharma, skilled in guiding and comforting people, the Elder sends him to bear the previous faults, ask the Abbot for forgiveness, and suggest, 'Come back again tomorrow.' If there is no concealment and he confesses, forgive him. If the disciple is cut off due to transgression, say, 'Exempt him from his previous faults.' And ask for forgiveness, if he confesses and comes back, that Elder should grant forgiveness. If it belongs to the kind of person who is cut off due to transgression, don't do that. If the disciple always keeps the precepts and is very diligent, but only slightly delays reporting, in this kind of situation where it is not appropriate to be cut off due to transgression, the Elder will not cut off due to transgression. If it should not be forgiven, do not forgive. If the disciple is cut off due to transgression, his previous faults should be forgiven, and he should be allowed to confess and come back, if forgiveness is not granted in a situation where it should be forgiven, it is a mistake. If it should not be forgiven, do not forgive. If the disciple is cut off due to transgression, his previous faults are not forgiven, and he does not confess and come back, I will call him and not let him ask for forgiveness. If it cannot be done, throw him out of the room. Use methods such as the five punishments, if it cannot be changed in any way, expel that disciple from the room. Give flour and pills, etc., and enough cloth to the practitioner. The expelled disciple, if he is in a place of practice, give him flour, pills, and enough clothes, and then send him away. Even if the practitioner himself has a lot of wealth, do not give it, but withhold it in order to make him come back. Even if he does not come back later and the things are ruined, but because there is no intention of stealing, there is no fault in withholding them. However, if he wants to receive Bhikshu ordination, give him the five requisites, etc. If the expelled disciple is close to twenty years old and wants to receive Bhikshu ordination, secretly send the practitioner three Dharma robes, plus a cushion and a bowl, a total of five items, and then give them. Also give Bhikshu ordination. If the expelled disciple has already fulfilled the precepts, secretly send the Sutra to the person who wants to receive Bhikshu ordination, and then expel him. Do not expect rewards like a lion. For the expelled disciple, do not cut off hope, thinking that he will not be a disciple again in the future. After a lion kills a wild animal and eats it, it will not think about eating the leftovers again, just as a lion pats with its paws and does not expect rewards.
