To climb to the top, make stairs on one side of the platform. To prevent falling, also surround it with a railing. To prevent falling from the stairs onto each other, firmly fix wooden planks on opposite sides. To prevent it from shaking, nail it with iron nails. To make the wooden supports of the stairs immovable and firm, nail them with iron nails. Outside, there is a row of surrounding platforms and small rooms. If there are many people and the meditation place is not enough, build small rooms around the outside of the house, with the doors facing inward. Do not place a door directly opposite a door. The doors of the small rooms should not be directly facing each other, but should be staggered. What kind of doors should be made? Make outer doors and other kinds of doors. It is also possible to dig a cave. It is permissible to make the meditation place a rock cave or an earth cave and meditate there. To sit, a platform of earth is also acceptable. It is permissible to make a platform of earth to sit on during meditation. A bed is also acceptable. It is permissible to meditate on a bed. If the bed is four cubits around, that is good. If the bed for meditation is four cubits on each side, that is good and appropriate. It is not a fault to make it larger than that. There are five ways to examine it. The bed's net and so on can be examined in five ways. Willow, reed, bala grass, woven material, and bark fragments, and so on. These are the names of the five kinds of rope that can be used for a bed. On top of that, spread a cotton-filled cushion. Spread a cushion with cotton or other filling with spaces on top of the bed. It is good if the cushion is larger than the bed all around. It is good if the cushion is one cubit higher than the bed all around. Fill it with the cotton of arka, kasha, keraka, buka, and shalmalī. To avoid hurting someone, cut it while writing or wrap it with bone. To support it, to make the supporting staff inconspicuous, cut the wood straight, or wrap it with ra-das (a plant), and throw away the clod. It is permissible for a meditating person to throw a clod at a dozing person to wake them up. Measure with a rope and straighten it again. After throwing the clod, pick it up again, and to avoid picking it up, hang it with a rope. Place a lamp in front of it.
