If one digs too much earth, it is a minor offense. Doing it is also the case. Even if it is done, it becomes a minor offense, which will be explained below. Taking out pegs, asking, extracting, and digging with hammers and other tools, as well as piling up mud there, bringing in pottery and other items, and scraping off land with alkali, even if one thinks about it there, it is the same. These are the things to do; if one does anything wrong from these named things, it becomes a minor offense. Therefore, if one only thinks about walking or calculating, there is no downfall. If one considers making the land unsuitable for use, causing damage or obstruction on mutually passable roads, or drawing pictures for the purpose of calculation, there is no offense. This is making the land unsuitable for use. The downfall of digging earth ends here. Next, explaining the downfall concerning guests. One should not excessively urge. Do not say, "Please urge this," because you want food for yourself. If one urges, it is a minor offense; if one eats, it is a downfall. The reason is that if one promises not to change the offering without specifying a time, but goes to a village to attend a feast, it is not allowed. If one is invited to a feast and says, "Please come," and goes to the place where one is invited without urging, there is no offense. This is urging the invitation after the time has passed. If one is invited to a feast, but the sun is about to set, even if one says, "Please come quickly," there is no offense. If one is invited to a householder's home without relying on grains, etc., and a seat is laid out for us, even if the householder does not know us and does not say, "Please sit," there is no offense in sitting down. Being invited separately is also for oneself. If one is invited separately just for oneself, there is no offense even if one goes. If one is invited together with the Sangha, it is also the case. After the Sangha is invited together, there is no offense if one is also invited separately. If one is invited twice, It should be done. It is the same at all times. If one says, "I will offer food for a lifetime," and is invited, there is no offense even if one goes there and sits down. If one is invited without any special restrictions, just being invited, without limiting the number of days to stay, or being invited to another place, or not being invited separately just for oneself, or repeatedly saying, "Please come here for a meal tomorrow or the day after tomorrow," it should also be done. If one is about to leave, but is answered, "Please stay here."
