If one praises not with the complete eightfold order, but with any one of the eight, one will incur a downfall. One should also be mindful of hearing these. If one falsely praises oneself as being proficient in the three baskets and having heard extensively, one will also incur a downfall. Eating (food prepared by a nun) will also incur a downfall, this is one of the branches. That is in the throat. The amount eaten refers to returning from the mouth, or smearing and pouring on the body and ears, etc., if food that should not be eaten enters the throat, one will incur a downfall. Reducing for the sake of others is permissible. If one knowingly takes food prepared by a nun and gives it to others, one will commit a minor offense. After saying "Give it," entering (the village) for the sake of food. When a monk is begging in the village, if a nun immediately arranges for a householder, saying "Please offer to this virtuous one," if he accepts it, he will commit a minor offense. This is preparing the offering. The downfall of eating food prepared by a nun is thus concluded. One-tenth of the ninety downfalls is concluded. Again, the downfalls concerning food will be explained. Because one has been invited, even in the village, one should be in charge oneself. If laypeople, etc., invite one to a sacrificial feast in the village, one can go and eat freely, there will be no offense. Not going is also without offense. One should enter after knowing the time, not before. As it says later in the Sutra, if one is invited to the village, we will not go before the time when the shadow of the sunshade has moved to the appropriate time. Striking the gaṇḍī. When going to a sacrificial feast at the time when the shadow of the sunshade has moved to the appropriate time, in order to avoid being early or late, the gaṇḍī is struck to gather everyone, and then they go together. There, one should observe one's own retinue. When going to a sacrificial feast for the Sangha in the village, one should observe whether the abbot, the teacher, the elders, and the discordant Sangha each possess the proper demeanor of a retinue, and if they are not dignified, one should have them be dignified. The newly arrived monks are the responsibility of the elders. If there are newly arrived monks, the elders should tell the patrons to include them in the offering, and give them care, just as they would treat their own retinue and disciples. One should not arbitrarily cut off food. Except for cutting off food for the purpose of medical treatment, one should not cut off food without certainty or benefit, if one cuts off food one will commit a minor offense. Drinks

If invited for the sake of offering, please sit down. In the village, if invited to a feast, there is no need to stay long after finishing the food. The host will say, "Please have some drinks and then leave." If that is said, there is no fault in sitting and drinking. If one receives an offering of clothes at the same time or later, and does not receive invitations from both, it is also acceptable. If two patrons invite separately to a feast together, it is a fault to promise to attend both. If invited five times in one day, it is a fault to accept both. If both inviters say, "We will offer a cloth as a gift," there is no fault in accepting both and eating. If the first inviter has clothes and the second inviter does not, eating the food of the second is a downfall. If the first inviter does not have clothes and the second does, there is no fault in accepting and eating. About food. Repeatedly eating vegetables does not lead to a downfall. Vegetables include the five categories of roots, stems, nodes, flowers, and fruits. Even if one eats twice from these vegetables, there is no downfall. Belonging to the five categories (of vegetables). Food has five types: rice, beans, lentils, flour, and meat. If one eats twice from these five types, it will lead to a downfall. If one eats food once and vegetables once, eating twice in succession will not lead to a downfall. That is to say, it is the same elsewhere. If one has previously eaten one of the five types of food, and is later invited by someone else and eats from the five types of food, it is a downfall. If the patron invites for the purpose of giving vegetables, and one eats both vegetables and food, it is a fault. If invited to eat food, and one eats both food and vegetables in succession, there is no fault. Not being sick, not working, not traveling on the road. If there is no reason for being sick, working, or traveling on the road, eating food twice will lead to a downfall. If these reasons arise and one eats, there is no downfall. If one is not mindful, it is a fault. If after having already eaten food, another inviter comes, or before eating, one has accepted a previous invitation, and later intends to leave because there are no clothes and has accepted, then at that time one has committed a fault, and eating will lead to a downfall. Sutra.
