If leaving the dwelling, should this grass be discarded or what should be done? Inquire of the householder and then discard it. In a monastery, it should be stirred up. If grass or leaves are laid down in a monastery or a place for overnight stay on the road, stir it up and clear it away to prevent insects from entering while walking. If not stirred, it is a transgression. If it is used as a pillow or cushion, it is considered done. As the sutra says, spreading grass like buttocks, stirring it, if residing for a long time, stirring one buttock or pillow is considered stirring. Spreading or discarding grass for drying clothes. If grass or leaves are laid under items such as clothes that have been washed or dried, they should be picked up, collected, and discarded. If one promises to pick up and discard, it should be given. If the laid grass is collected and discarded, and someone like a student says, "I will collect and discard it," let them discard it. If one says, "I will pick up the grass," and later says, "I will discard it," it should also be given. Spread grass in places for walking to avoid shoes dragging. If the walking area is rough and harmful to the feet, it is not a transgression to spread grass and leaves to make it soft for the feet. Those should also be discarded. As the sutra says, the grass spread in the walking area should also be collected and discarded. If it is spread in a monastery and not turned over, it is a transgression. In short, discard what should be discarded, those things that have not become unusable. Collecting grass and worrying about discarding it, if it is not rotten and not damaged, can be collected and can be discarded, then collect and discard it. If it is rotten and cannot be collected, it is not a transgression not to collect it. Otherwise, inspect it from time to time. Grass and leaves, etc., that are laid down and used, if they are not rotten and can be used, whether insects have entered or not, should be inspected and checked from time to time. Changing is also the same. As the sutra says, the laid grass, if inspected and found to be attracting insects or is old, should be replaced. In soft, oily ground, inspect it daily. In places with soil that is damp, soft, and easy to enter, because insects easily enter, it should be inspected once a day. Otherwise, inspect it every half month. On gravel, sand, or hard ground, where insects do not easily thrive, if grass or leaves are laid, inspect it every half month. When walking, hang the bundle of grass tied with rope on a tree. If grass needs to be laid or spread in the walking area of a monastery, when not walking, collect the grass, tie it up, and hang it up. The grass bundle mat is for friends to come.

Because it needs to be laid, it is tied to a tree and placed. Tying it to a tree like this is to prevent it from rotting and to prevent insects from entering. Cow dung is placed on tiles. To prevent insects from entering the cow dung, it is placed on tiles, wooden boards, and stone slabs. Those who have passed away before are gone. When preaching and teaching regularly, starting from the beginning and promising that you have to go there, all the gestures are like laying grass or leaves. If you leave without shaking it, you will commit a downfall. This is like explaining the branches. Using it together is the same. If two monks use the laid grass together, both of them must collect it and throw it away. If it is not for the Sangha, you must inform the owner. If it is not a place of the Sangha, laying grass in the homes of laypeople and others, if you don't have time to throw it away and have to go far away, entrust the layperson to throw away the grass. If they agree, there is no fault even if you leave without throwing it away. The Sangha's temple is also a place where the downfall of laying grass is committed, and it is also the Sangha's temple. Land, stones, and sand, etc., are not the foundation for laying grass, not bricks, rocks, and sand, etc. In the absence of these, places that are prone to becoming faults, on soft or greasy soil that is prone to insects, I myself or the grass and leaves that I myself lay or dig and make into cushions are permissible. If you have someone else lay it, you will commit a downfall if you don't shake it. This is the downfall of laying. The downfall of laying grass and leaves is complete. Next, explain expulsion. Do it from the temples of monks and the Sangha. If a monk in the Sangha's temple expels or has someone expel a resident monk, even if it is not out of anger or revenge, he will commit a downfall. If there is harm there, or the house is about to collapse, or to remove water and fire, etc., and relocate, or if a dispute arises in the Sangha, if the monk is not expelled from there, it will cause harm or dispute to the Sangha, so expel him, or if it does not subside, if the Sangha's dispute cannot be subsided without expelling him, so expel him. If you want to do this, it is not allowed. To relocate for medical treatment, etc., if a monk is expelled for reasons other than these, he will commit a downfall, until...
