I am not counting, but advise the one who speaks wrongly, saying, "Do not say that," once. After that, if they do not stop, say, "You are counted among these who do not possess discipline," and if they do not stop, they commit a downfall, that is, joining in urging one branch, as well as the one with wrong views who does not speak and the one who speaks and is manifestly negligent, showing and flaunting to others. If a monastic friend is doing wrong and is advised not to act wrongly, if advised as stated in the scriptures, even if they speak wrongly again, or remain silent without saying anything, if the behavior is shown properly, if the monastic openly refutes and speaks back, they commit a downfall. It is a request. If the Sangha says, "Do not do," like this, having advised once before, and counting it as belonging to an offense, this is done through the karma of supplication and request. If a monastic disobeys the command. Regarding misconduct, if a monastic who behaves properly advises properly, if they refute again or remain silent without saying anything, not listening to the advice and disobeying, they commit a downfall, that is, one branch. There it is approved. Regarding wrong conduct, if showing "Do not do like that" and coming, wanting to refute again, having spoken and done, they will commit a downfall, that is, one branch. Because they spoke other words. Regarding advice, if not sitting silently like an answer, or refuting, it is one branch, if possessing four branches, they will commit a downfall, if silent, it is a misdeed. Whether it is asking or advising, etc., whatever it may be, if remaining silent in order to refute the answer, it is a misdeed. Saying "I do not remember" is also the same. Regarding asking a question, if saying "I remember, I do not remember" in order to refute the answer, it is a misdeed. If it is not saying that it is suffering. If relatives and friends, etc., die, if speaking truthfully would turn into sorrow, therefore not speaking, not answering, or changing the topic to speak, there is no offense. Therefore, if seeing a killing, everyone asks, saying, "It is getting dark for a moment, drinking water for a moment, resting for a moment, seeing the sky or fingernails," if truthfully saying "I did not see sentient beings or killing," there is no downfall. If a murderer has fled and people chasing after them come and ask, if, as stated in this sutra, in order to delay, speaking falsely and deceiving, there is no offense.

Even if done that way, if asked, (he) would think that sentient beings have no substance, and if (he) answers correctly, (he) would say that he did not see the person who killed sentient beings, and that would also be blameless. One should not stay in a place where one will become a witness, and should flee from arguing about lawsuits and so on, and from being entrusted as a witness and the four great (ones) and being caught. If causing harm, without closing the door, do not give testimony. Flee like dodging an arrow, but if not escaped, and caught by the witness and the four great (ones), then vow not to cause harm later, and testify. If unable to guarantee not to cause harm later, then shut up and stay put. This is the prohibition of commands. The downfall of speech ends here. Now explaining the downfall of the seat: bed, small bed, pillow, backrest, pillowcase, and square object, these are bedding. If these things mentioned by name, such as the bed, small bed, pillow, etc. of the Sangha, are discarded in an open space without a cover, it will lead to a downfall, that is, the bedding itself and without a cover, these are two limbs. Forty cubits and nine fingers is its limit. The seat remains in the open space without a cover, and if one leaves without moving it, if one goes beyond the distance of forty cubits and nine fingers from where the seat is, it will lead to a downfall, this is one limb. From which door does the circling begin? Measuring forty cubits and nine fingers, if it is around the outer wall of the temple, from which door of the outer wall of the temple does the measuring begin. If there is no outer wall, then from where the seat is placed, measure forty cubits and nine fingers. The statement of exceeding this distance is: walking or sleeping inside, or entering into meditation, etc., are all hidden. If the Sangha's seat remains in the open space without a cover, exceeding the distance of forty cubits and nine fingers, whether forgotten, or left alone, or gone to meditate, or gone to sleep in the house, or gone to meditate, if it matches the starting point of the calculation, it will lead to a downfall. Compared to different (situations), before is combination. If not exceeding forty cubits and nine fingers, or not being wet by rain, or not being blown away by wind, or not being eaten by insects, but remaining in a place without a cover, this is a misdeed, in this case, the name will be mentioned, the misdeed itself will be explained below. Even if exceeding (the distance), or not being wet by insects, wind, and rain, but if remaining in a place without a cover, exceeding forty cubits and nine fingers, it will lead to a downfall. If it is (this situation), it is the last (situation). Even if exceeding forty cubits and nine fingers, rain and wind and insects
