Or, even if one says with gentle words, "There is such a fault of affliction," it constitutes an offense. Even if one harshly points out the fault and calls out with harsh scolding words, it constitutes an offense. If one thinks and speaks that nothing is sacred in any way, if a monk says to another about a physical defect, such as being lame or having leprosy, or about a mental defect, such as being like fire or a venomous snake, or about a defect of lineage, such as being a sweeper, saying, "It is like this," it constitutes an offense. If one calls out using a non-name or a name that becomes a fault, it constitutes an offense, even if displeasure does not arise. If a monk points out a fault to the monastic community like a cesarean section and calls out, even if they are angry, it constitutes an offense. If one speaks of faults like a cesarean section to other monks and laypeople, it is a minor offense. For those of royal lineage and Brahmins, etc., it is a minor offense. If a monk says to someone of non-noble lineage, such as a royal lineage, in an arrogant manner, "It is so," it is a minor offense, as stated by Bhishuta. If one says, "You of royal lineage, etc., have abandoned noble conduct, why have you entered liberation?" If one says this, it is a minor offense, as stated by Bhijayavarma, which is pointing out faults and calling out. The offense of pointing out faults and calling out comes from the Sutra in the Vinaya-vibhanga. Explanation of the offense of tale-bearing: Because one desires tale-bearing, if one says, "So-and-so said," saying this constitutes an offense. In order to make two monks fight or split, saying, "He said this to you," and thus conveying words back and forth, it constitutes an offense, because it is true tale-bearing and it was said to another, these are the two limbs. If one engages in tale-bearing to novices and laypeople, it is a minor offense. Even if one only says the name, it is acceptable. If it is not the name of a novice or layperson, but one says, "This monk said this to you," it constitutes an offense, these are the three limbs. That is said to a monk. If one speaks to that monk who is dwelling far away, who has not violated the precepts, possessing these four limbs constitutes an offense. If one thinks that someone who does not possess the precepts possesses them and speaks, it also constitutes an offense; to others, it is a minor offense. If one says that one does not possess these four limbs, it is a minor offense, as stated by Bhijayavarma. If one says, "This monk said this," without mentioning the name, it is a minor offense, as stated by Bhishuta. This is tale-bearing. The offense of tale-bearing comes from the Sutra in the Vinaya-vibhanga. Explanation of abuse: If one knowingly commits it, it constitutes an offense.
