The so-called striking of both the small gandi means that for the sake of gathering for food, both the gandi and the small gandi should be struck. Should these two be struck together or one after the other? No, therefore it is said, "There should be a separation in between." How long should the separation be? Therefore it is said, "With 'pas so'." Before the time it takes to make offerings to the Buddha and to wash the alms bowl, the small gandi should be struck. After the steward and the cleaner have made offerings to the Buddha and washed the alms bowl, when the shadow of the sun reaches a certain point, the great gandi should be struck, and all the monks should gather for food. This is the concluding statement. If the sound of the gandi cannot be heard when a large crowd gathers, then a conch shell should be rolled up and blown. This means that for the sake of gathering for food, after the gandi has been struck, if the sound of the gandi cannot be heard when most of the monks have gathered, then two large conch shells should be rolled up and blown together. The so-called striking of the large drums means that at that time the large drums should also be struck loudly. Here, the scriptures say that in the Vinaya-vastu, when a large crowd of monks gathered, there was a great commotion, and the Blessed One said, "First strike the small gandi, then strike the gandi." However, some monks who were engaged in daytime activities did not hear it, and the Blessed One said, "Roll up the conch shell and blow it, strike the large drums." This is what was said. These times of striking are only examples, because it is also necessary to strike the gandi for things like being satisfied with one's dwelling. The so-called "One must not fail to go when the gandi is struck" means that wherever the gandi is struck, one must pay attention and not fail to go, but must go. In the Vinaya-vibhanga, there is also the statement that one should go for the sake of the gandi. Striking the gandi is to summon the assembly, so in order to be sure of what has happened here, one must go there. Like this, I am there

Because there is no favor, do not think that I am not a relative, do not go. The so-called not to be fast means that you should go fast only for the sake of the Ghandi. When there is only a little time left for the completion of the matter, strike the third constant strike, and then act as you please. It means that the person in charge of abandonment, in how much time, the monks who abandon make offerings to the stupa, wash the bowls, go to alms, etc. When there is so much time left for the completion of the matter, strike the third constant strike, and then the abandoners act as they please. The person in charge of abandonment said: 'Those who have life, now act as you please!' This is a permissive wording. The so-called moderation means that when striking the third constant strike, it should not be too little or too much, but should be struck moderately. The so-called to declare merit means that after striking the third constant strike, the benefits of giving should be declared. Then how should it be done? Therefore, it is said 'moderate', that is, to be moderate in more or less. The scripture here is like this, those people act as they please when the time is near the end, and the Blessed One taught: Do not act as you please when the time is near the end, but understand the time and then act as you please. Those things obtained from the Sangha should also be bathed, and there is free time to gather in the Sangha, and those alms seekers should also wash their feet and hands, and have free time to enter the city for alms. That's what it says. At the end of the night, when there is still time for the night to pass, you should also act as you please. The so-called person in charge of abandonment should gather first and leave last, which means that the monk in charge of abandonment should gather before the monks who abandon have gathered, and leave after they have left. If such a cause occurs, the hidden key should be indicated. It means that if the person in charge of abandonment does not have free time to gather first due to a sudden event, and such a cause occurs, he should indicate to the manager of the abandonment of the monk where the key to the abandonment place is hidden. It is instructed in this way: In the past, the key was placed in someone's hand, or hidden in a certain place.
