Do not meditate, do not habituate, this is its summary. This is to say, the Blessed One said that yoga should be meditated upon, and when the ascetics entered the place of practice, they were also meditating, and they were walking with the mad elephant. The Blessed One said: Monks, entering the place of practice, do not meditate on yoga, this is the summary of what was said. This prohibits habituation, but for the sake of taming, in order to show miracles and so on, manifesting one-pointedness of mind is not prohibited, because there is no fault in that. Also, do not gather, which is connected to the phrase 'should meditate on yoga.' Wherever people gather, whether gathering, coming, or going, yoga should not be meditated upon. Here, the scripture is that when monks meditate on yoga at any door, they become drowsy, and non-believers will mock them, saying: Venerable ones, are you ascetics who sleep together? Then the monks prayed to the Blessed One, and the Blessed One said: Do not meditate on yoga at any door. Similarly, one should not meditate in courtyards and so on. If the door is closed, then the gathering in the courtyard and so on will be interrupted, and at that time there will be no fault in meditating on yoga in the courtyard and so on. In order to accomplish both, the words 'do not gather' were spoken. One should completely avoid things that distract, are violent, and confusing. Distracting refers to dwellings, where sounds of people and so on arise, thus causing distraction. When they meditate in dwellings, the obstacle to meditation is sound, so one cannot achieve one-pointedness of mind, and the Blessed One said: Do not meditate on yoga in dwellings. Violent refers to violent creatures such as lions and tigers, because they are very violent.

If one were to meditate in a secluded place, when thieves and deceitful people, as well as lions, tigers, bears, and leopards roamed about, the monks would request the Bhagavan, and the Bhagavan would instruct: "Do not practice yoga in a secluded place," and so on. The term "deceitful people" refers to liars and young children, etc., because they are deceitful and skilled at deception. They gather near villages, and those who do not trust the practitioners would mock them, saying: "Venerable ones, is someone among you about to die?" The monks would request the Bhagavan, and the Bhagavan would instruct: "A hermitage should be built," and so on. This sutra summarizes these points. Therefore, in order to explain the construction of a hermitage, it is said, "A hermitage should be built," meaning a place for practice should be built. What is it like? Therefore, it is said, "Space should be left between two dwellings," that is, one dwelling should be built on one side, and another dwelling should be built on the other side, with a path in between. This is the appearance of a small hermitage. Between "five or six" dwellings, a path should also be left. That is, five dwellings should be built on one side, and five dwellings should be built on the other side, with a path in between; or six dwellings should be built on one side, and six dwellings should be built on the other side, with a path in between. These ten or twelve dwellings are the appearance of a medium-sized hermitage. This can also be other medium-sized examples of four dwellings or more, and less than ten dwellings, any of those will do. Regarding "the method of making door leaves that do not make noise and straightening them," it should be connected to the word "do." Everything from below until the appearance of "build a gatehouse" should be connected to this. For door leaves that make unpleasant sounds, measures should be taken to prevent them from making sounds; for door leaves that make pleasant sounds, they can be handled as desired, as long as no harm is caused.

Regarding the method of fencing. This refers to what the Blessed One said, that the door should be made first. Since the monks do not install door rings, the Blessed One said, door rings should be installed. Difficult to break, the Blessed One said, latches should be installed. Making noise, the Blessed One said, leather pieces should be installed underneath. Difficult to open, the Blessed One said, latches should be installed. Making noise when opening, the Blessed One said, it should be wrapped with cloth strips, this is the summary of what was said. Therefore, to know the method of preventing hair from appearing, one should install leather pieces and wrap cloth strips underneath, this is the summary of what was said. The so-called upright method is to install two latches both inside and outside, this is the summary of what was said. Leaving one-third at the top, it is also good for the window to be narrow on the outside and wide on the inside, which means that it is good to make a window on either side of the wall, leaving one-third of the upper part and two-thirds of the lower part, but if it is low, robbers and cunning people and lions, etc. will enter. If it is high, the light will not be bright. What shape should the window be made? Therefore, it is best to be narrow on the outside and wide on the inside. Nets and door rings, crossbars, sky nails, rotating shafts, and wooden plugs should be placed close together, which means that they should be combined with the word "do". This refers to crows, swallows, pigeons, etc. entering, and the Blessed One said that the window should be made with a net. Mosquitoes, small insects, holes, and woodworms enter, and the Blessed One said that door rings should be installed. Being blown by the wind, the Blessed One said that crossbars should be installed. Difficult to break, the Blessed One said that sky nails and rotating shafts should be installed. Difficult to open, the Blessed One said that sticks with wooden plugs should be placed close together, which is the summary of what was said. Crossbars, sky nails, rotating shafts, etc. can be used to break. Sticks with wooden plugs can be used to open, and should be combined with the word "do". If there is not enough space, build a large room on top, which means that if there are many monks
