Even if regret arises at that time, the previous action is considered wrong, and therefore it is considered a grave offense. If it were not so, the sutra would say that one who has not taken the Bhikshu vows commits adultery, and one who has taken the Bhikshu vows steals, but the sutra does not say so. Therefore, here it should be understood that if one steals after taking the Bhikshu vows, one commits a grave offense. The latter situation is also the same. The latter situation refers to the latter chapter, which is the Bhikshu vows themselves. In that case, it is also the same as the previous chapter, that is, the same as the chapters on Bhikshunis and Shramaneras, and therefore a complete offense will be committed. What is shown here is that whatever action is done in the chapter on taking the Bhikshu vows, just for that reason, whether one abandons or accepts the vows afterwards, in the chapters on becoming a Bhikshuni, Shramanerika, or householder, in the actual situation, for the two who have not taken the Bhikshu vows, it is a minor offense. For a householder, there is no downfall. Becoming an action of taking the Bhikshu vows is a grave offense. The remaining actions, for the two who have not taken the Bhikshu vows, are minor offenses. For a householder, there is no downfall. That which is better than the prohibited substance is also the same. That is to say, because it is forbidden to make cushions from cheap materials, etc., making cushions from materials that are better and more expensive than those materials, etc., is also the same as the prohibited situation. For example, just as it is forbidden to make cushions only from black sheep's wool and cheap materials, and if one makes cushions from those materials, one commits a Nissaggiya Pacittiya offense, it is also forbidden to make cushions from silk and precious materials. If one makes cushions from those materials, one will only commit a Nissaggiya Pacittiya offense. Therefore, for the sake of downfall, good materials should also be considered the same as bad materials. The same situation is also the case, that is, the situation where good and bad materials are the same is also the same as the prohibited situation. Just as silk and other precious materials are prohibited, for more expensive materials such as Munda silk, it is also the same as the prohibited situation, because both

seems to become something to be abandoned, that is its definition. For example, just as making a cushion solely from silk wool would lead to the downfall of abandonment, similarly, making a cushion solely from Monda, Dugula cotton cloth, and black wool, and likewise, making a cushion from a mixture of Monda and silk wool, etc., and making a cushion from white wool or a mixture with a small amount of white wool, would also become merely something to be abandoned. Chapter Forty-Three. "Change of sex is its field" refers to connecting with "is the field of that downfall." This generally refers to the field of both the preparatory and actual downfalls. The following sutra says, "From the preparation for any act of degradation itself," which indicates that for that object, it is the field of the preparatory downfall. In the sutra below it says, "What is done is it," which shows that for that object, it is the field of the actual downfall. Therefore, "change of sex" refers to the mutual change of sex between male and female. Such a change of sex is the field of the preparatory and actual downfalls, because those downfalls will arise from that sex, that is its definition. It is taught thus: the field of whatever actual act is prepared for the sake of fully instigating any downfall, is also the very sex that has changed into another sex. Thus, if there is a change of sex, then the field of the actual act of whatever preparation was begun in the state of the previous sex, may also be the state of the later sex. For example, when one engages in the preparation to kill a monk, if that preparation is completed simultaneously with becoming a nun, then the sex of the nun is the very field of the actual act of that preparation to kill. Similarly, when one engages in the preparation to kill a nun, if that preparation is completed simultaneously with becoming a monk, then the sex of the monk is the very field of the actual act of that preparation to kill. If it is said that there will also be a downfall that becomes a field of degradation, for example, when a monk engages in the preparation to ejaculate semen, if that preparation is completed simultaneously with him
