It is not appropriate to establish this as a transgression, but it should only be said that many non-meritorious deeds will arise. Here, the treatise states that having previously committed a downfall, being in a state of theft, having deranged faculties, being a hermaphrodite, and being ruined by expelling a bhikṣuṇī, will be considered a transgression. Mentioning being in a state of theft, etc., is merely an example of all the obstacles that prevent the arising of those who have definitively severed their roots of virtue, such as killing parents. Mentioning having previously committed a downfall indicates the source of how ruin becomes a transgression, that is, whatever downfall that leads to defeat was committed at the time of taking full ordination, that is called having previously committed a downfall. For those who have not taken full ordination but have gone forth, if they transgress what they have taken, it is also a transgression, and the word "also" is used to emphasize this point. Because they have neither taken full ordination nor gone forth, they are called those who have not taken full ordination and have gone forth, namely, śrāmaṇeras, śrāmaṇerīs, and śikṣamāṇās. What they have taken means that śrāmaṇeras have taken the ten precepts, such as refraining from killing, and śikṣamāṇās have taken the six dharmas and the six dharmas in accordance with them. If they transgress or violate these, it is only a transgression. It has been previously stated that the preparation for a downfall is a transgression, so in order to avoid the implication that the preparation for all downfalls is a transgression here as well, it is said that transgressing what has been taken is a transgression, but actions related to it will become a mental transgression, which will be explained later. For actions related to it, it is a mental transgression. What is meant by actions related to it is that the śrāmaṇeras, śrāmaṇerīs, and śikṣamāṇās who have not taken full ordination and have gone forth have taken the precepts, such as refraining from killing, and the six dharmas and the six dharmas in accordance with them. If it is not these precepts themselves, but actions that are similar to and dependent on these precepts, then it is called actions related to it. If they transgress and violate these precepts, it will become a mental transgression, which is a transgression to be restrained, not a transgression to be confessed.

is the concluding word. In order to show which ones are related to this, it is said: A bhikṣuṇī's holding, separation, and touching fire, abandoned food and destroying seeds, in places where there is green grass, discarding impurities and climbing trees, those that are taken and belong to the sūtra, the two śrāmaṇeras touching precious objects, eating what has been piled up, digging the earth without being given, not being associated with destruction of growth, dwelling in one place for the summer retreat, having posadha and pravāraṇā, and so on, these are related to what has been taken. Signs and begging and containers, enjoyment, wavering desire, harm and dwelling, disrespect, not studying, arising from the root. Thus it is said. Now, from here onwards, the explanation of the verses of summary will be spoken. These are not related to the bhikṣuṇī's taking of the training ground, and do not become offenses to be guarded against. What are they? Holding, separation, touching fire, eating abandoned things, destroying seed heaps, discarding impure things in the direction of green grass, climbing trees, and those that belong to the completely taken training ground of the sūtra. Among these, "holding" means especially holding the Dharma garment and the alms bowl. "Separation" means separation from the Dharma garment. "Touching fire" means blowing fire and so on. "Eating abandoned things" means eating abandoned food. "Destroying seed heaps" means destroying seed heaps that have not been allowed. "Discarding impure things in the direction of green grass" means discarding feces, urine, saliva, snot, vomit, and phlegm in places where there is green grass. "Climbing trees" means climbing trees more than one person high, except when harm has occurred. "Belonging to the completely taken training ground of the sūtra" means that the bhikṣuṇī has completely taken the training ground, belonging to the Prātimokṣa sūtra, such as abandoning killing and so on, and the ten, as well as the six dharmas and the six dharmas that are in accordance with them. Why are these not related to the bhikṣuṇī's taking of the training ground, and do not belong to the offenses that should be guarded against?
