The scripture here is like this: The doctor said, "Venerable, you sleep with your head down, which makes your body unbalanced and your body temperature also decreases, so please put a footrest to sleep." The monks said, "The Blessed One has not allowed this." From here, the Blessed One said, "Therefore, it is allowed to put a footrest to prepare the bed." The above is what is said. The meaning of "One should not sit on a stacked bed" is: A stacked bed refers to putting a bed on a bed, and one should not sit on it. The scripture here is: Then, the Blessed One thought, "What faults would there be if the monks sat on a stacked bed?" Therefore, a monk should not sit on a stacked bed. It is said that if you sit, you will commit a serious mistake. If repairing the legs of the bed will cause a fall, then for this reason, it is said that "exceeding the size, or causing others to exceed the size", meaning that you exceed the size to be said below, or let others exceed the size. Two or three legs support it, such as some wooden small beds, which should be understood by implication. If someone starts it and someone else finishes it, it is an evil deed. All "for other renunciants" etc. should be understood from houses, temples and cushions etc. What is the size of these legs? Therefore, it is said: "Their size, except for the part inserted into the mortise, is one cubit." The size of these legs, except for the part called the mortise, the width of the leg itself is one cubit. If it has a mortise, then starting from the point where the mortise is inserted, it is one cubit. If there is no mortise, then the upper part of the mortise is called the mortise, but it is not included. What kind of cubit is used to measure? Therefore, it is said: "With one-third of the Sugata." That is, one-third of the Sugata's cubit, measured with the eight fingers of the Sugata.
