The phrase "should not be treated as old age" means that for practitioners, one should not act as if dealing with old age. How should it be done? It means how to obtain and use the utensils of practitioners, such as cushions, etc. One should not enjoy them as if dealing with old age. This is its conclusion. Here, the scripture refers to when monks reside in secluded dwellings, engaging in beneficial conversations, the group of six monks would come and demand, saying, "We are old." Therefore, the Blessed One taught, "Should not be treated as old age." The phrase "monks should not be defiled by work and food" means that monks should not hinder their excellent practice by engaging in work and preparing food. The phrase "should not sit in a place that is not one's own" means that a place that does not belong to oneself is not one's own place, and one should not sit there. The phrase "if one wants to use the common property of the Sangha after finishing work, one should not obstruct" means that after a monk has finished his own tasks, such as mending clothes, washing feet, defecating, etc., if he wants to use the common property of the Sangha, such as copper utensils, foot washing areas, toilets, etc., he should not occupy them for himself, but should let others use them. The phrase "if one gets up from the seat midway for some purpose, it does not count as finishing the work" means that if a footstool is set up for the purpose of mending clothes, drying clothes, or arranging things that cannot be reached, but one leaves the seat midway for some reason, it does not count as finishing the previous task. Because I have not finished the previous task, it does not count as finishing the work. In this case, if someone else wants to use the footstool, one should not refuse. This should be applied to others as well. The phrase "at that time, one should put the Dharma robe or knee cover on it" means that if one gets up from the seat midway for some purpose, one should put one's Dharma robe or knee cover on the seat at that time. This is to prevent others from forcibly taking the seat before one has finished the work on the seat. The phrase "if someone wants it and there is space," one should not insist on using the items of the Sangha that have already been soiled, means that if a monk takes the common property of the Sangha, such as copper utensils, etc., and it is soiled by paint, etc., and one has not finished one's own work, if someone else wants to use it, and one has a place for one's own utensils, etc.
