The mantra for appointment should be applied appropriately, as mentioned before. Also, one should be happy to distribute leftovers, and appoint someone through solicitation and two karmas. The mantra for that appointment should also be applied appropriately, as mentioned before, with the mantra for blessing food for appointment. In some treatises, this "distributing leftovers" is called "distributing scattered food." If someone asks, what is "leftovers"? To explain this, the sutra says that distributing the remaining food on the next day is what is called "leftovers." Here it says that no one should distribute the remaining portions of offerings, etc., but the Blessed One taught that someone should be appointed to distribute the leftovers, and he should distribute those foods on the next day. The so-called "managing utensils" should also be done happily, and appointed through solicitation and two karmas. The mantra for that is: "So-and-so, are you willing to manage the sangha's utensils?" The answer is: "I am willing." Please listen, venerable sangha. If the monk named so-and-so is willing to manage the sangha's utensils, if it is the right time for the sangha and it is permissible, please allow the sangha. The sangha will appoint the monk named so-and-so to manage the sangha's utensils, the monk named so-and-so manages the sangha's utensils. This is how it is proclaimed in the sutra, this is the solicitation, etc. The so-called "summer great cloth" means to happily cover and donate the sangha's summer great cloth, and to appoint someone through solicitation and two karmas. These three, here and below, which are "covering clothes" and "donating clothes," refer to managing the gains from clothes, and the mantra for appointing them is: "So-and-so, are you willing to cover and donate the sangha's summer great cloth?" The answer is: "I am willing." Please listen, venerable sangha. If the monk named so-and-so is willing to cover and donate the sangha's summer great cloth, if it is the right time for the sangha and it is permissible, please allow the sangha. The sangha will appoint the monk named so-and-so
