Diligence in all things, and being enthusiastic, is also not naturally existent. To begin doing this, if one is swayed by the thought of going elsewhere, that is a regression in conduct. That is to say, to begin the conduct of abiding, and having already abided, if one is swayed by the thought of going elsewhere, that is a regression in conduct. To rise from one's seat within the Sangha is a regression in conduct, not just going elsewhere from there. Here, the scripture says that rising from within the Sangha, including the close attendants, is like this. Regarding "one should state one's views to the Sangha," here, "views" refers to wisdom and thoughts; for the sake of the Sangha's affairs, one should state one's views to the Sangha. Regarding "do not tell others," that is, do not state one's views to groups other than the Sangha, i.e., non-Sangha. Therefore, how could one state one's views to a single individual? Because one cannot achieve the purpose in that way. Regarding "do not tell one who has not taken full ordination," that is, one should not state one's views even in the ceremony of a novice monk. Regarding "also do not tell one who is not suitable to supplement the Sangha," that is, even if one has taken full ordination, if one is not suitable to supplement the Sangha, one should not state one's views. Regarding "do not say the remaining entirety," that is, knowing that someone has committed a root downfall, one should not state this view even to the Sangha. One should not say to anyone, "I know that this person has committed a root downfall," because it is unnecessary and will cause disputes. Here, the scripture is from the *Mother Sutra*: "What are the five statements of views that are not in accordance with the Dharma? They are stating views about someone who should not abide, stating views about someone who abides in a different way, stating views about someone who has not taken full ordination, stating views about a group, and stating views about the remaining entirety of things. These five are statements of views that are not in accordance with the Dharma." The five that are the opposite of these are statements of views that are in accordance with the Dharma. Here, "group" refers to those who have not yet become a Sangha. The prohibition against stating views about the remaining entirety of things is to avoid harm arising from that person because of that reason.

If. Here, the text is asking for instructions. If one speaks of a past transgression, it is a misdeed. Abiding in the method of stealing, as well as the initial dispute, giving precepts, if one speaks of the faults of a novice monk, it becomes a misdeed. Similarly, if one speaks of someone who has been expelled from the community, it is also a misdeed. Therefore, one should know that whatever is not suitable for supplementation should be prohibited. Replacing the appointed one, one should appoint the one who is most excellent and does more, meaning: replacing the previously appointed person, one should appoint someone else who can do the job best and do the most. Do not set a time limit, meaning: appoint. For whom should a time limit be set and not appointed? Therefore, it is said, "Again and again or to others," meaning again and again: whenever there is a need at other times, only you are appointed, and do not appoint by setting a time limit like this. To others means: for other needs, only you are appointed, and do not appoint by setting a time limit like this. To others, how much is enough to give up? Meaning: other than what is said again and again or to others, if one is appointed to someone without a time limit, how much is enough to replace from there? That is, you are removed from here. Do not do it in a degrading way either. If there is no appointed person, distribute by throwing lots, meaning: if there is no one appointed to distribute utensils, the owners of the property should throw lots to distribute. That is, if there is someone to throw lots, the owners give many marked lots to the lot thrower, and then he covers his eyes and places a lot on each item, and whoever it falls on takes it. If there is no lot thrower, the items are placed in the open, and the owners each take what is at hand, and whoever gets it first gets it, which is called throwing lots in the world. Whatever is not suitable for supplementation should not be distributed by throwing lots either, meaning: those who have not taken full ordination, etc., those who are not suitable for supplementation into the sangha, should not participate in the throwing of lots for the distribution of property, etc. Good!
